Douglas Lima, Alexander Shlemenko advance to title-fights with Season 5 final wins

While there’s no doubt the spotlight is on FOX tonight for the UFC’s historic debut on network television, Bellatoralso put on a solid show worth at least the effort to record or watch when it replays tonight at 11:00 PM EST.

Bellator 57 was highlighted by a pair of Season 5 Tournament finals featuring a quartet of respected competitors

In one match-up, middleweights Alexander Shlemenko and Vitor Vianna duked it out. Shlemenko, who went the distance against 185-pound champion Hector Lombard after winning an earlier season tournament, found his sixth straight win since the loss, while Wand Fight Team staple Vianna made it clear he’s more than just a BJJ expert with a sub-minute knockout of Bryan Baker last month in the semifinal round but came up short to the Russian, losing on the judges’ scorecards.

On the other side, UFC veteran Ben Saunders looked sharp early against highly-touted youngster Douglas Lima the next victim on his run towards a date with welterweight title-holder Ben Askren but got stopped with strikes after a solid opening round.

Here is a full list of Bellator 57 results:

im looking forward to the two tournement finals as much as the cain/junior guida/benson fights

Let’s face it-Bellator isn’t even on the MMA map-We all try to believe that they have some sort of impact on the MMA world-When in reality-They are just a overhyped regional at best-Lombard would get destroyed in the UFC MW division and probably fail his first HGH test-Askren?-please-Konrad couldn’t beat Beltran-Alvarez would lose to Jim Miller and Guillard-Joe Warren would lose to at least seven UFC fighters in his weight class and none of them are fighting for the title anytime soon

  • Sonofabitch! I was unhappy about Ben Saunders gettin cracked lke that. Great night of fights all the way around. If Bellator could just up their production values and their venue sizes they could really be a thorn in the UFC’s side.
HSF i was seriously lookin forward to Lima vs. Saunders….and i got everything i wanted out of that fight except a Killa B victory.
