Saunders, Lima emerge as Bellator Season 5 welterweight finalists

Oklahoma and Texas battled today on the football field and they battle again tonight in the cage. While most eyes were focused on the action going on in Houston with UFC 136, there is a pretty significant event going on in the land of Sooners too. Coming to us live from the Buffalo Run Hotel & Casino in Miami, Oklahoma it was Bellator 53.

Bellator 53 was headlined by the two welterweight semifinal fights.

Chris Lozano tried to snap the seven fight win streak of Douglas Lima in the co-main event of the evening but failed despite hurting Lima early and was knocked out in the second round of their scrap. Then, in the main event, the always entertaining Ben Saunders battled MMA veteran Luis Santos who he submitted midway through the third round.

Here is the full list of Bellator 53 results:

Luis Nogueira def. Zak Laird via Submission Round 1 (Guillotine Choke)
David Rickels def. Levi Avera via Submission Round 2 (Triangle Choke)
Raphael Davis def. Myron Dennis via KO Round 2 (Left Hook)
A.J. Matthews def. Rudy Bears via Unanimous Decision
Giva Santana def. Darryl Cobb via Submission Round 1 (Armbar)
Emanuel Brooks def. Greg Scott via TKO Round 2 (Strikes)

Thiago Santos def. Josh Burns via Submission Round 1 (Rear Naked Choke)

  • I just got to watch this card as I had it DVr’d at home while i was out watchin the UFC….what an awesome card from Bellator and what improvement by Ben Saunders…to hold a BJJ black belt like Luis Santos in a variety of submissions for that long shows he’s been workin on his ground game dilligently. I look forward to the finals…both Killa B and Douglas Lima want that win and want it bad…..either one can and probably will give Askren or Hieron a great fight.
