UFC Live 6 awards more than $250,000 in bonuses to top performers

The UFC wrapped up another successful event on Versus with bantamweight champ Dominick Cruz retaining his title after a five-round skirmish with top 135-pound contender Demetrious Johnson. However, neither headliner walked away with an event-specific bonus at UFC Live 6.

“Fight of the Night” and $65,000 each went to Matt Wiman and Mac Danzig after their re-telling of a controversial bout from 2010. The two lightweights battled it out for three rounds in a bout that could have resulted in a Draw without complaint. However, the nod ultimately went to Wiman who improved his overall record to 14-7 with the victory while TUF 6 winner Danzig dropped to 4-5 in the UFC.

Meanwhile, Anthony Johnson was curiously handed “Knockout of the Night” honors and the attached cash though he didn’t actually knock opponent Charlie Brenneman out. “Rumble” rocked Brenneman early and often and landed a flush headkick to finish things off but “The Spaniard” immediately protested the stoppage and never appeared to be completely out of it.

Finally, “Submission of the Night” and $65k went to Stefan Struve after surviving a Power Bomb Slam to tighten up his Triangle Choke and finish off hard-hitting kickboxer Pat Barry.

  • Awesome night of free fights….I do agree that stoppage of Brennamen was horrible….i doubt the outcome would’ve been any different though
what was REALLY bad though was Fernando Yamasaki’s stoppage of TJ Grant and Shane Roller….that was as good a grappling match as MacDonald vs. Maia and he stopped it on an armbar that wasnt even extended!
Horseshit….I hope his brother kicked his ass after that. 😉
