As the saying goes, “When it rains, it pours,” and in the case of Strikeforce at the moment it appears a dark cloud is currently positioned directly above the promotion and dropping down nothing but misfortune including lengthy health-related absences, former champions departing with regularity, and struggles with attendance/ratings.
Adding to the list of the organization’s recent woes, Strikeforce announced earlier today that Virgil Zwicker had withdrawn from his headlining slot opposite undefeated striker Lorenz Larkin at Strikeforce Challengers 19. The show is scheduled for September 23 giving officials less than adequate time to find a suitable replacement for 10-2 finisher out of Team Quest.
Five Ounces of Pain spoke to Zwicker about the issue who explained he would know more after getting test results later this week but said that the injury had to do with his head.
Zwicker started out his career with eight straight wins after overcoming a number of personal struggles early in his life but has gone 2-2 in his last four fights. However, both losses came to significantly larger men, while nine of his ten total victories have involved some form of stoppage.
Also revealed as being scratched from the Strikeforce Challengers 19 lineup was undercard competitor Jerron Peoples.
