Bellator FC streaming live Season 5 undercard bouts through Spike.com

In a move substantiating claims of a relationship between Bellator Fighting Championships and Spike TV, news has surfaced that the network will broadcast the promotion’s preliminary pairings through their website starting this weekend with Bellator 49, the first time ever Spike will stream live MMA action.

“We are thrilled to join forces with Spike.com,” said Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney of the newly formed partnership. “The Spike brand is synonymous with Mixed Martial Arts worldwide and is another member of the MTV family who does an incredible job in resonating with the hard-to-reach 18-to-34-year-old male audience.”

The live stream will run before every Bellator event during Season 5 from 7:00-9:00 PM EST as a lead in for when the main card picks up on MTV2 (or EPIX in HD).

The network, known for showing UFC events and playing home to the Ultimate Fighter, was first linked with Bellator shortly after Zuffa aligned themselves with FOX and started severing professional ties in the process. Spike TV executives were seen in attendance at last month’s Bellator 48 event and, again breaking from the norm, a review of the show was later posted on Spike.com. Both factors were seen as adding weight to the likelihood of the two sides coming together in the near future as they since have.

Among the undercard bouts at this weekend’s event, Brazilian finisher Alexandre Bezerra faces 8-2 Scott Heckman and Bellator veteran LeVon Maynard will mix it up with submission specialist Giedrius Karavackas. The evening’s televised action will focus on the opening round of the Bellator Season 5 Welterweight Tournament.

I’m going to do my best to watch these just to support Bellator and Spike’s MMA interest.

The next step, to really put Bellator on the map, is to convince MTV that there is a void in programing on SpikeTV (which there totally is now) and that Bellator can fill that void and come close to maintaining previous viewership numbers for the 18-24 market during Bellator broadcasts.

Dump MTV2, move the whole shit to Spike to we can watch it in HD, and show the prelims on Spike.com….brilliant.

Do it. Do it Rebney. Give it to us on Spike in HD man….you know we can’t fucking afford EPIX…..if any of us are going to get premium it will be Shotime so we can see SF shows.

    Good Stuff…

First thing that popped in my mind was why Zuffa never used Spike to broadcast prelims online so that it leads right into live Spike Tv programming for TUF finales & Fight Night cardshave a little brand synergy yeah know? Then I realized they are more worried about there social media presence… which is fine but didn’t help spike any.

I got my fingers crossed… after Zuffa is gone they gotta get BFC on Spike it’s a win/win move.

Hard to reach? What’s so difficult about putting boobs and sports on? We’ll find it, I promise.
