Aaron Rosa drops to light heavyweight for fall fight with Fabio Maldonado

The UFC will be handing out early Halloween treats this October with a number of events including UFC Live 6 on the first of the month and now the latest sweet addition to their plethora of pairings has been revealed.

According to the organization, exciting heavyweight Aaron Rosa will cut down to 205-pounds for his next appearance in the Octagon with Brazilian striker Fabio Maldonado standing in his way of victory.

Rosa, who weighed in at more than 260 pounds for his UFC debut this past June against Joey Beltran, has fought as a light heavyweight before and is no stranger to stand-up success either with powerful hands and a durable chin assisting him in earning six career TKOs. Before losing to Beltran in the third round of their UFC 131 match-up the 28-year old Texan had won four straight fights including victories over Devin Cole and Abe Wagner.

The 18-4 Maldonado is 1-1 thus far in his UFC career and is coming off a “Fight of the Night” performance against Kyle Kingsbury at the TUF 13 Finale. He has finished fifteen of the opponents he’s beaten including thirteen by way of strikes.

UFC Live 6 takes place on October 1 in Washington D.C. and is headlined by bantamweight champ Dominick Cruz defending his belt against 9-1 sparkplug Demetrious Johnson. Other scheduled fights include Charlie Brenneman vs. Anthony Johnson and Pat Barry vs. Stefan Struve.

Maldonado won the Kingsbury fight, IMO. Kingsbury’s knees didn’t land well, and his takedowns were inconsequential…meanwhile, no one can deny that Maldonado’s body shots were vicious and he had Kingsbury hurt multiple times.

Anyway, solid matchup. Rosa has good hands too. Should be a good scrap.
