MFC signs Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou, will fight Ryan Jimmo at MFC 31

Canadian organization Maximum Fighting Championship continues to make moves in the MMA world. Always looking to add talent to their roster, MFC has confirmed the signing of explosive light heavyweight Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou. He will make his MFC debut at MFC 31, facing Ryan Jimmo in the main event for the MFC light heavyweight title.

MFC sent out a press release to announce the signing.

Once thought to be the “next big thing” in the 205 division after knocking out Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and Ricardo Arona in the PRIDE organization, Sokoudjou has failed to find consistency in the sport following a short-lived run in the UFC that saw him post a 1-2 record. Since being released by the company in 2008, the Cameroon native has fought for various organizations, including Strikeforce, DREAM, and Shark Fights against the likes of Gegard Mousasi, Renato Sobral, and Houston Alexander. He’s currently on a three fight win streak.

“The Real Deal” is on a win streak of his own, one that is five times longer than Sokoudjou’s run. During the course of his 15 fight win streak, Jimmo has defeated UFC veterans Marvin Eastman and Wilson Gouveia, along with fighters such as Emanuel Newton and Zak Cummings. Often criticized for his less than spectacular performances, Jimmo will be looking to put on a show against “The African Assassin”

MFC 31 in scheduled for October 7 at the Mayfield Conference Centre in Edmonton, Alberta.

  • MCM says:

Gotta go with Jimmo in this one. Why MFC would bring in Sokoju instead of Houston Alexander or try to get Cote back is beyond me.

  • Angry Mike says:

I’ve seen Jimmo fight a few times on HDnet. I’ve wondered how he’d fare against better known fighters. Sokoudju could be a good test. Hopefully it’ll be televised.

  • fanoftna33 says:

Jimmo has looked pretty decent, but I think Soko will be a little to much for him here, unless Jimmo can get it out of round1 then Soko will gas for sure.
