Submission specialist Ailton Barbosa recently referred to his upcoming opportunity at Bellator 50 as a “dream come true”. Now it appears the American Top Team product can hit the “Snooze” button and enjoy the pleasantries a little longer.
According to a source with intimate knowledge of the situation, Five Ounces of Pain has confirmed an agreement is in place for Barbosa to compete under the Bellator banner beyond the September 17 event. News of the possibility first surfaced on Tatame earlier today with the 9-2 grappler’s manager providing the scoop.
The talented welterweight initially earned a chance to fight at Bellator 50 after emerging as the final fighter standing at one of the promotion’s open tryouts in June but was inked to an extension after choking out Anderson Melo last month at CFA 2. The win marked his fifth straight and was his seventh victory via submission.
Bellator 50 is scheduled to take place in what is essentially Barbosa’s backyard, Hollywood, Florida. The card will feature the opening round of the promotion’s Season 5 Middleweight Tournament and includes exciting match-ups such as Zelg Galesic vs. Alexander Shlemenko and Bryan Baker vs. Jared Hess.
