Zelg Galesic set for Alexander Shlemenko at Bellator 50

One of Bellator’s newest middleweights will make his debut under the promotion’s banner this September and has drawn a daunting assignment in the form of seasoned tournament veteran with 3X his in-ring experience and twenty-four TKO victories to his credit.

According to sources close to the situation, Zelg Galesic and Alexander Shlemenko have agreed to face off on September 17 at Bellator 50. The match-up was first reported by MMAJunkie, though Five Ounces of Pain has since confirmed the bout will also serve as a quarterfinal in the company’s Season 5 Middleweight Tournament.

Similar to the highly-touted Russian, Galesic is no stranger to stopping opponents with eight of his ten total wins stemming from the ability to bang and the other two coming via submission. He holds a 10-5 overall record with past success against Magomed Sultankhmedov and a first frame knockout of Lee Chadwick in March.

Shlemenko is 4-1 in Bellator including his emergence as the last man standing in the organization’s Season 2 tournament followed up by a gutsy performance in a decision loss to explosive 185-pound champ Hector Lombard. The 39-7 “Storm” has finished thirty of the foes he’s faced including knockouts of Sean Salmon and Bryan Baker.

Though no other Season 5 pairings have been produced thus far, other middleweights attached to action in the tournament so far are Baker, Vitor Vianna, Brian Rogers, and Jared Hess.

really like both these guys, tho i wish Alexander would give 170 a try. he seems so small for middleweight. Zelg has always been hit and miss, and i cant believe he’s only had 15 fights, remember seeing him lose to Paul Taylor years ago

I’m with you hindsight, Shlemenko looks like he could easily make 170, maybe even 155 honestly. I’m really starting to like Bellator more and more each season. For those who don’t have the UFC blinders on, this season’s featherweight tournament is incredibly stacked with some of the best guys out there.

Catching up on all the summer series higlights i missed… Bellator is still making the right moves, I just hope they can capture a larger audience and get the ratings they deserve which will open up there spending capabilities a bit and really start grabbing a piece of the mma pie. BFC!

Yeah but Shlemenko like most russian fighters, doesn’t cut weight, he just fights at his natural weight, like Fedor or Edgar. Look at how big Baker was compared to Shlemenko, still got knocked out!
