Pat Barry vs. Stefan Struve scheduled for UFC Live 6

It’ll be a monumental clash of strikers in Washington when 5’11” Pat Barry takes on a man exactly one foot taller than him, 6’11” Stefan Struve. The two heavyweights desperately in need of a victory have verbally agreed to hook em up at UFC Live 6 in October.

The first was confirmed by the organization earlier today.

“Hype or Die” hasn’t quite lived up to the hype inside the octagon thus far, trading wins and loss in his six UFC appearances. He suffered a heartbreaking defeat in his last fight against Cheick Kongo this past June. After nearly finishing the French striker in the early moments of the fight, Barry left himself a little too open for a couple of counter rights hands, which Kongo placed perfectly behind the ear and then on the chin, putting Barry out cold in what many consider to be the front runner for “Knockout of the Year.”

“Skyscraper” has found more success in the cage, posting a 5-3 UFC record, including a win over former UFC heavyweight title challenger Paul Buentello. In all of his defeats though, Struve has been (T)KO’d, including in his most recent bout against Travis Browne at UFC 130. Struve has earned a reputation for being in exciting fights and pulling off comeback victories.

UFC Live 6 is scheduled for October 1 at the Verizon Center in Washington, DC. The event will be headlined by a UFC bantamweight title fight with Dominick Cruz battling challenger Demetrious Johnson.

  • Dufresne says:

My first thought was “Struve is getting KtfO” but then I remembered his fights with Christian Morecraft and Denis Stojni? and I started having second thoughts.

But then I also remembered his fight with Roy Nelson and changed my mind back to “Struve is getting KtfO”

2 glass jaws going heads up… Sweet

  • YetiLee says:

@Gunner – I will agree that Struve does have a glass jaw but have to disagree with Barry. I have seen that guy take some real hard shots and still remain standing, the punch from Kongo was just one of those punches that was perfectly placed and would have KO’d anybody.

Well i guess its time to say goodbye to skyscrape.. hes getting cut after HD knocks him out cold..

  • Rece Rock says:

HD will finish this fight the right way this go round…. last fight he was robbed of a KO. Barry just gotta find a way to get inside the reach of this tall stringbean.

  • Sykotick says:

    A few quick points..
    The Glass jaw:
Hype or Die has taken some vile punches and fought on, but the punch Kongo caught him with would have knocked out an elephant.
IMO Struve is falsely accused of this also, his KOs of recent memory come agains JDS (who hit a man so hard his ears wiggled in pain), Roy Nelson who puts all of his rotund ass into his punches, and Travis Brown who is 11-0-1 with 9 of those wins by KO, not to mention it was a faint, which got him moving forward towards the superman punch.
Duf, I gotta disagree with Struve getting cut after HD blasts him, he is 5-3 in the ufc with all but 1 win being finishes, and prior to getting dropped, he was on a 2 fight win streak.
In the end, should be an awesome fight till Barry closes distance and smashes Struve in royally violent fashion.

  • Sykotick says:

Sorry I meant Creature not Duf..

  • JOEgun says:

Ive got some faith in Struve.

I say he wins this by submission (very likely) or KO.

  • Pat Barry CAN KO anyone…however I think Struve will look for the quick sub. Front kick into duck under Barry’s punches takedown armbar done. Barry hits like a truck but he sucks everywhere else.

  • MCM says:

Everyone wants Barry to be some bad ass, but in truth, he’s not. He’s got the leg kicks to take out the Skyscraper, but he’ll always be a lower middle of the pack fighter. I think Struve has much more potential and more of an upside if he could just learn to use his height. If it hits the ground, HD is tapping out. More than likely though, Struve will come out swinging in the first like he always does, and end up getting rocked and dropped. Learn to JAB son.

I got Struve winning by sub in rd.1!
