One of the heavyweight division’s brightest rising stars has joined the UFC 135 lineup in hopes of having his hands raised a twelfth time while also avoiding the first loss of his career as 11-0-1 Travis Browne will take on streaking Brit Rob Broughton on September 22 when the organization stops in Denver for the event.
News of the Mile High match-up was reported through the UFC’s website.
The 6’7” Browne was last seen in the Octagon performing an organized demolition of Stefan “The Skyscraper” Struve en route to winning “Knockout of the Night” honors last month at UFC 130. The showing marked the 29-year old’s ninth strike-based victory to date including wins over James McSweeney and Abe Wagner.
While he may not come with the same hype as his Hawaiian adversary, Broughton has compiled a 15-5-1 record thus far in MMA and has found success the last five times he’s fought. He holds wins over Neil Grove and James Thompson and was victorious in his UFC debut last October though hasn’t stepped into the ring since.
UFC 135 is headlined by light heavyweight champion Jon Jones defending his belt against former title-holder Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and also features 170-pound icon Matt Hughes in action against fiery fan favorite Diego Sanchez.
