UFC 131 preliminary pairings made available through Facebook, YouTube

Continuing the recent trend of streaming live prelims, the UFC has announced five undercard fights set for UFC 131 will be made available to the public through both Facebook and YouTube. The move to YouTube is a first for the world’s foremost MMA promotion and takes advantage of the popular website’s recent shift towards offering live broadcasts.

Fans can tune in through either outlet starting at approximately 5:45 PM EST on Saturday night before switching over to Spike TV at 8:00 PM EST to catch Ontario native Jesse Bongfeldt battling undefeated All-American wrestler Chris Weidman and veteran Yves Edwards taking on hard-hitting Canadian Sam Stout.

The five bouts scheduled for YouTube/Facebook are Darren Elkins vs. Michihiro Omigawa, Joey Beltran vs. Aaron Rosa, Mike Massenzio vs. Krzysztof Soszynski, James Head vs. Nick Ring, and Dustin Poirier vs. Jason Young.

The PPV portion of UFC 131 fires up at 9:00 PM EST with a heavyweight headliner between Shane Carwin and Junior dos Santos in addition to earlier action featuring debuting featherweight Ken Florian against 16-1 Diego Nunes and submission specialist Demian Maia mixing it up with former NCAA champion Mark Munoz.

Glad they hooked up an alternate to Facebook…

I had no problem with them on FB, but as big as FB is, it’s no where near as big as YouTube. Gotta love a sport that embraces the new media.

I liked them on FB but always got a slow or very bad video of the fights so it was more me listening to the play by play than watching, hopefully on youtube there will be a much better video, looking forward to Stout vs Edwards.
