22-year old Brazilian Amanda Nunes will look to build off her exciting knockout of Julia Budd from this past January when she returns to action next month at “Strikeforce: Overeem vs. Werdum” against seasoned veteran Julie Kedzie. Both women are in the midst of worthwhile win streaks and either could very well make a case for title contendership at 135-pounds depending on the outcome of their bout.
News of the June 18 match-up was revealed through an official announcement by Strikeforce.
Fans may remember Nunes’ exciting, albeit brief, unveiling at Strikeforce Challengers 13 when she stopped Budd with strikes less than fifteen seconds into their fight. The performance marked her sixth straight victory – fifth by way of TKO – and improved her record to 6-1 meaning she has not lost since falling in her first professional fight.
Kedzie should serve as a difficult draw for the relative newcomer given her experience and overall skillet. Though the June event will mark her Strikeforce debut, the Jackson’s MMA staple has more than tripled Nunes’ total in-ring appearances while racking up a 16-8 record and wins over Kaitlin Young, Kelly Kobold, and Jan Finney. Kedzie has also won her last four fights with unanimous decisions across the board.
