Strikeforce inks Maximo Blanco to multi-fight deal

Fans wondering whether or not Strikeforce would still seek to sign high-level free agents with Zuffa ownership in place received their answer earlier today when it was revealed the organization had come to terms with former King of Pancrase and SRC veteran Maximo Blanco on a multi-fight deal.

New of the 8-2-1 Blanco’s signing was first reported by Sherdog though no date or opponent for his North American debut was mentioned.

The 27-year old will add a necessary layer of depth to Strikeforce’s lightweight division and should be right at home alongside promotional peers like Josh Thomson, Justin Wilcox, and of course champ Gilbert Melendez. Blanco is currently riding a six-fight winning streak including a victory over Strikeforce’s Rodrigo Damm a year ago and has earned seven of his eight total wins by way of TKO.

This may be a bit off topic, but has anyone else heard that Scott Coker has been demoted from CEO to Executive VP?

is it strange to sign for Strikeforce at this stage? why not go straight to UFC? are they are using strikeforce to see whether he is worthy?

Duf- it was announced at the UFC Summit last week… If I was Coker I’d just be happy to have a job… Even better a job with less responsibility.

This is a nice pick up for SF I just hope he doesn’t get one fight then a shot at the title, but that’s probably what will happen because there’s nothing else for Melendez to do these days…

i’m all for SF figters staying with Strikeforce, except Diaz and Gilbert, they need better, regular competition,
