A pair of streaking lightweights will meet this August in hopes of taking another step towards contendership, as Danny Castillo and Jacob Volkmann have been booked to face off at UFC Live 5 in Milwaukee with one of the two talented 155ers exiting the event with a loss after compiling a trio of consecutive wins.
News of the scheduled match-up was announced through the UFC’s website.
Castillo was last seen notching the biggest victory of his career this past March by outpointing Ultimate Fighter Season 2 champ Joe Stevenson and also found success against blue-chip prospect Dustin Poirier at WEC 50 (with an 85-second knockout of Will Kerr sandwiched between the wins). A Team Alpha Male representative alongside other notable UFC competitors like Urijah Faber, Chad Mendes, and Joseph Benavidez, “Last Call” Castillo holds an overall record of 11-3 with eight finishes including a nice balance between submissions and TKOs with four of each.
His opponent at the August 14 event, Volkmann, has remained undefeated since dropping to lightweight last year with his most recent performance coming at UFC 125 in the form of Split Decision against Antonio McKee. The submission savvy 30-year old has won six of his twelve total bouts by means of tap-out.
Joining Volkmann vs. Castillo on the card, 155-pound peers Jim Miller and Ben Henderson will square off in headlining action with a title-shot likely in the cards for Miller if he emerges with his hands raised. Other fights at UFC Live 5 include Dan Hardy vs. Chris Lytle and Amir Sadollah vs. Duane Ludwig.
