Rich Franklin fighting Antonio Rogerio Nogueira at UFC 133

Antonio Rogerio Nogueira will look to avoid extending the first losing streak of his ten-year career this summer in a superfight of sorts as the one-time PRIDE representative will see action against former UFC middleweight champ Rich Franklin at UFC 133 in Philadelphia. Nogueira is coming off back-to-back defeats against Phil Davis and Ryan Bader after winning seven straight.

News of the August 6 pairing was announced on the UFC’s Twitter feed.

The match-up with Franklin should be a welcome change in style for Nogueira after facing wrestlers in his previous two appearances. “Little Nog” is 19-5 overall with victories over Luiz Cane, Vlad Matyushenko, Dan Henderson, and Alistair Overeem while only having been beaten a single time by way of strikes.

Fan-favorite Franklin was last seen in action a few months back at UFC 126 where he was unanimously outpointed in a close fight with Forrest Griffin. Though a solid grappler, “Ace” has never shied away from his love of stand-up with more than half of his twenty-eight total wins coming as the result of a TKO.

The two talented 205ers will join Vitor Belfort and Yoshishiro Akiyama in co-headlining UFC 133 with other scheduled fights including Jorge Rivera vs. Alessio Sakara and Dennis Hallman vs. Brian Ebersole.

This card is staking up very nicely.
I think Rich might be able to take this one. He’s a slightly more cerebral striker IMO, and if he plays it right, should outpoint Lil Nog. ‘Course there’s always the possibility he goes to sleep if he tries to stand and exchange with Nogueira.

This will undoubtedly be a stand up fight for the majority of the fight, Rich will stand with anyone and had proven that many times. and lil nog will do the same. the difference between these 2 and a fight between johnson and hardy, franklin and nog are both legends, both are MMA superstars and prolly dont care if they get another title shot, they just wanna have a good fight and have fun.

I hope to see Ace back in ‘winner’s lane’…. Franklin is one of the reasons I’m such a huge MMA fan… RICH ALL THE WAY!

Finally a Lil Nog fight that won’t end in a decision… just don’t know if he’ll be the one with his hand raised…
