Shark Fights 14 frenzy a go as all competitors make weight

The lot of competitors facing off tonight at Shark Fights 14 stepped on the scale Thursday in Lubbock, Texas and hit their necessary marks meaning the event will go on as originally scheduled. That being said, the proceedings were not without a bit of last second drama as co-headliner Carina Damm barely made weight…literally.

Damm originally weighed eight-tenths of a pound over the contracted limit but made 126 on the dot after stripping down completely. Her opponent, Tara LaRosa, came in a single notch lower at 125. Both women are respected grapplers with the bulk of their success coming by way of submission. LaRosa holds an overall record of 19-2 while Damm is 15-5 respectively.

Meanwhile, though the main event match-up between Matt Horwich and Danillo Villefort also features a pair of fighters known for their work on the mat, the middleweights did not experience the same problems as their female counterparts with each measuring in at 185.5 pounds.

Horwich will be looking to build on the third TKO win of his career after rendering Jake Rosholt defenseless from strikes last November. The one-of-a-kind Californian has earned 20 of 26 victories via submission including those over Thales Leites, Mike Pyle, and even UFC light heavyweight Krzysztof Soszynski.

His Brazilian adversary may lack Horwich’s experience but is also well-versed in BJJ and known for better striking. Villefort has won eight of his last nine fights with the only loss being a Doctor’s Stoppage at UFC 101. His last outing resulted in a Unanimous Decision over always-tough Joey Villasenor and was Villefort’s third consecutive win including a 55 second knockout of 5 OZ. favorite (in the name department) Cassiano Ricardo “Tytschyo” Castanho de Freitas.

Fans can tune in to catch all the action live on HDNet this evening starting at 10:00 PM EST.

    God Bless.

Can’t help but looking at that stare down pic and thinking of these 2 mixing it up in a very different way… 😉
