A Friday night treat was in store for MMA fans thanks to the time difference between Australia and the United States leading to the lot of individuals competing in Sydney at UFC 127 stepping on the scale to take the next step towards victory at 10:00 PM EST.
UFC 127 is highlighted by a contendership-determining clash between welterweights B.J. Penn and Jon Fitch in addition to a bout-turned-personal between feuding middleweights Michael Bisping and Jorge Rivera. Joining the quartet of co-headliners on the main card, streaking lightweight George Sotiropoulos takes on German striker Dennis Siver on top of appearances from Chris Lytle and Aussie Kyle Noke.
Co-headlining middleweights Bisping and Rivera exchanged heated remarks during their face off but avoided a physical altercation as may have been feared by some after the amount of trash-talk leading up to tomorrow night’s event. Bisping weighed in at 185.25 pounds with Rivera measuring a half-pound less at 184.75.
Meanwhile, Fitch will enter UFC 127’s main event with at least a 2.5 pound advantage over Penn after hitting the scale at 169.75 with the former UFC lightweight champ coming in at 167.25 (in blue jeans no less).
Beyond the standard PPV broadcast on Saturday fans can also catch a handful of live preliminary pairings for free via Facebook and the ION Network.
