Marlon Sandro signs deal with Bellator for Season 4 debut

Bellator Fighting Championships’ already-deep featherweight division took another step towards cementing its status as the top 145-pound roster in MMA with the addition of Sengoku stand-out Marlon Sandro. However, though Sandro is scheduled for his promotional unveiling in the next few months he will not participate in the Bellator Season 4 Featherweight Tournament as the field of competitors has already been established.

Word of his signing came via an official press release from Bellator where CEO Bjorn Rebney explained, “Our featherweight division is absolutely stacked and Sandro pushes that talent pool to an even higher level. I’m thrilled to have him on board.”

The 33-year old Brazilian will enter the promotion with a 17-2 record and has yet to be finished in his career. Sandro has won three of his last four fights including a trio of first-frame knockouts. The latter stat is particularly notable given Sandro’s success as a BJJ blackbelt.

No official date or opponent were mentioned in relation to Sandro’s debut.

Yeah, we’re thrilled that you got him on board Bjorn. He’s a welcome addition. We’ll take him.

Is Clementi fighting at 145 now? That might be a good one since neither of them are in the tournaments, but I think Rich is at 155 still.

Benco, can this actually be a statement approaching the truth:
“BFC took another step towards cementing its status as the top 145-pound roster in MMA”

If so, that’s pretty exciting for this young promotion. I actually wish they’d focus on the lighter weight classes and the women’s divisions under 125lbs. They might actually be able to claim that niche since the other two major players spread their dollars around to all weight classes.

Whatever though…free fights Saturday nights. BFC!

good point Gut, would be nice to see them concentrate on the lighter weigths just as WEC did.
they still have a good ww and mw roster tho. However last seasons HW tournement wasnt entertaining at all, which is a shame cos its the first time Bellator didnt really deliver for me personally.
unless you have the cream of the crop at HW its not gonna be great is it?
be interesting to see how the LHW’s get on

Awesome signing to get Sandro on board, love watching him fight

I’ll agree that the HW tourney left much to be desired but hopefully the next go round will see a much better group selected and hopefully some HW vets that are floating around that are still competitive. I think HW is the one weightclass I wouldn’t mind seeing some older guys in the BFC Tourney.
