Liz Carmouche replaces injured Miesha Tate against Marloes Coenen in Columbus

A knee injury has forced top 135-pound female contender Miesha Tate out of a scheduled title-bout with current champ Marloes Coenen on March 5 creating a short-lived vacancy since filled by undefeated Liz “Girl-rilla” Carmouche. While no specifics were given regarding Tate’s health an official press release mentioned the damage occurred at some point while training for the event.

A former Marine with three tours in Iraq, Carmouche has racked up five straight wins since turning pro a little less than a year ago including a third round TKO of veteran competitor Jan Finney in her last outing at Strikeforce Challengers 12. She is 5-0 thus far in her career with four wins by way of a finishing performance.

Her clash with Coenen is complimented by another fight featuring a Strikeforce championship up for grabs as light heavyweight title-holder Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante will put his belt on the line against PRIDE/UFC staple Dan Henderson. The main card also offers fans a battle between middleweights Tim Kennedy and Melvin Manhoef as well as the debut of Jorge Masvidal who takes on undefeated Billy Evangelista in lightweight action.

Tate vs Coenen would have been a very good fight, as both ladies truly put on a hell of a show. Both great grapplers-Tate a much better wrestler who is so tough and Marleos a great submission grappler who has very good hands.
Well good luck to Liz, good to see a new face at 135 and hope she does well, but looking for Marleos to get the W
