Opponent named for Phil Baroni’s Titan FC debut

Charismatic striker Phil Baroni’s road to redemption starts on March 25 at Kansas City’s Memorial Hall. According to an official press release from Titan Fighting Championship, “The New York Bad Ass” will compete live on HDNet at Titan FC 17 as expected when the organization announced his signing last month. Baroni will face newcomer Nick Nolte at the event.

“This is a very important fight for me and my preparation has already begun,” said Baroni of the bout. “I cannot afford to be anything but my best. Nolte is a very game opponent and has to see this as an opportunity to get a big win. I’ll do whatever it takes not to let that happen and I look forward to putting on a show in Kansas City and winning over the fans with my exciting fighting style. I plan on setting up shop in Titan and that means taking Nolte’s ass out in KO fashion.”

The 34-year old New Yorker is coming off back-to-back losses in the UFC in addition to a another defeat to Joe Riggs before signing to return to the Octagon. Prior to the slide Baroni had won three fights in a row including a pair of first-frame knockouts. Known for his heart and love of stand-up, Baroni holds an overall record of 13-13 but has only gone the distance en route to victory twice in a decade long career while compiling nine wins by way of TKO including success against respected Japanese veterans Ikuhisa Minowa and Ryo Chonan.

His opponent, who will enter the bout as a hometown favorite given his Kansas City roots, is 2-2 since turning pro a little less than two years ago and is coming off a submission over Lee Werr in November. Both of Nolte’s wins, as well as defeats, have been the result of a tap-out.

    I guess Gary Busey wasn’t available. 😉
Too bad the actor Nick Nolte wasn’t a fighter his pre and post fight interviews would be classic. Every interview would start with ” Aww hell…”

As long as Nolte passes the drug test ( highly doubtful though).
