Ryan Couture joins Lyle Beerbohm on February 18 Challengers card

Rising prospect Ryan Couture will put his modest undefeated record (1-0) on the line against another young lightweight who has yet to lose as a professional, Lee Higgins, on February 18 at Strikeforce Challengers 14 just outside of Austin, Texas in Cedar Park. Not only is Higgins 2-0, but he is also a native Texan, meaning Couture should definitely have his work cut out for him next month.

News of the pairing was announced in an official press release from Strikeforce.

Couture, son of former double-divisional UFC champ Randy Couture, won his MMA debut this past August by submitting Lucas Stark a little over a minute into their match-up at Strikeforce Challengers 10. He was originally set for action in November but was forced to withdraw due to a staph infection.

His opponent, Higgins, should provide a good test for Couture on the ground as both of the 30-year old’s victories are the result of Rear Naked Chokes. The fight with Couture will mark his third bout in four months with the previous wins having occurred in November and December.

Couture and Higgins will join another undefeated lightweight, Lyle Beerbohm (15-0), at next month’s event. Beerbohm is set to face well-versed veteran Pat Healy in the evening’s main event.

For a second there I thought they were putting Ryan in with Lyle.

I was going to pick Lyle…lol. I think that guy is a beast.

Good luck to Ryan though. I’m sure he’ll probably win this contest. 2-0 is a good start.

It must be nice to be 1-0 and has as much sponsorship as the guys in the main event, at the same time the added pressure of having a superstar in the sport as your father kinda evens things out, it must be annoying to be interviewed and have to answer as many questions about your dad as they reporter asks about yourself when it comes to your livelihood.
