UFC streaming two prelims for free this Saturday night through Facebook

In the promotion’s never-ending quest to bring MMA to the masses, the UFC has announced it will broadcast two otherwise unaired Fight Night 23 bouts for free through the organization’s official Facebook page. The pair of prelims receiving the rub are TUF 9 finalist DaMarques Johnson’s scrap with Mike Guymon and one-of-a-kind Cody McKenzie’s attempt at submitting veteran competitor Yves Edwards for the first time in four years.

“I’m always looking for ways to give fans fights for free and this is just another example of that,” explained Dana White of the decision. “Facebook is such a great tool for people to stay connected and we’re excited to put two live fights on our UFC page for free.”

The stream will begin at 8:00 PM EST.

On top of McKenzie vs. Edwards and Guymon vs. Johnson, Mixed Martial Arts’ enthusiasts can tune in to Saturday night’s “Fight for the Troops” event on Spike TV and also catch heavyweights’ Pat Barry and Joey Beltran facing off, in addition to Matt Mitrione and Tim Hague, as well as Mark Hominick’s bid to become top featherweight contender against George Roop and a headlining clash between heavy-handed Melvin Guillard and 11-1 contender Evan Dunham.

I am NOT complaining BUT what happen to ION, I mean those execs over there should be jumping at putting some fights on the network… before the last free prelims who in the coveted 18-35 even knew the channel existed… Just saying.

  • Guthookd says:

I agree man, ION was a far better option than a stream from FB.

But then again, they had to do something. You know we would have all been pissed if Cody subbed Yves and we missed.

    Maybe ION costs too much.

Twc posted the fights on ion tv and another program was on. I dont like fb, ions better if they get shit straight.

I can’t wait to see the Cody/Yves fight-Fb will have to do for now-I guess

    facebook sucks. this is lame.

  • JOEgun says:

watching it in high def on a 50 inch plasma wouldve been better but hey, it works for me. the more fights available to watch for free the better.

  • Guthookd says:

Oah, BTW, I was going to wait till Friday to do this but….

    Cody by guillotine round 1.

    There, I said it.

  • Brendhan Conlan says:

This wasn’t mentioned by the UFC but I wouldn’t be surprised if the FB move has something to do with The Social Network recently being released on DVD.

Hopefully this stream will actually work. The last few times there’s been free streaming MMA, the site crashed (looking at you EA Sports).

However, I somehow doubt that facebook will have any issues dealing with the increase in traffic.

  • LiverPunch says:

All UFC fights are streamed on the net for free. :)
    Just kidding.
Seriously though , anyone who does that is stealing from the fighters along with the execs. So it is a big no no. If you love MMA you should help MMA succeed by paying for it.

This Face Book thing is not great but it is free so who can complain?.

Liverpunch and it’s affiliates do not condone or encourage any illegal activity involving the copying or downloading of copyrighted materials. It makes me sad :(

what if you live outside the US and have no way of paying to watch it?

    and fuck facebook….

  • climbarock says:

Y’know, it’s too funny…If UFC puts together a bunch of mediocre prelims, no one really cares to watch, and there’d be no outcry from the fans over the untelevised bouts. UFC’s own promotional successes – building an incredible and deep roster of fighters, and then putting together a stacked card with excellent PPV and pre-lim matchups – are causing a fan backlash because we want to see, basically, every fight on this card. It’s not exactly a bad problem to have for the UFC.

  • LiverPunch says:

“what if you live outside the US and have no way of paying to watch it?”

You fly to the US , buy a house and get cable installed , you cheap bastard.
If you are to miserly for that you could get around it by whatever means but if the UFC folds it is your fault.
Where do you live anyway, the moon? Cuba?. Move in from the sticks. What country on god’s green earth does not provide it’s hard working citizens with a good dose of “human cockfighting” after a hard days work?. Where ever it is , I think we should bomb it until they do.

Climbarock the whole card is free. People are just wondering “why facebook”.

i’m in the UK and its only since ESPN began showing UFC a year or so ago i get to watch all events. before that i got to watch the ppv’s but no fight nights or tuf finales. so i had to download it all. i still have to download all strikeforce/m1/dream/wvr/k1 plus all the brazillian/japanese events etc etc. dont get none of that over here.

i’m not about to watch ufc on facebook out of principle, cos i fucking hate the site, also i dont have my pc hooked up to TV, and i wanna watch mma in all its glory, not some half arsed stream that is bound to fuck up at some point.

  • Dufresne says:

Hahahahaha!!! LP, that’s classic stuff. Exactly what I needed this early in the morning.
