Frank Edgar leaves Las Vegas with title, event-high payday

More than a million dollars was dished out to fighters at UFC 125 including an event-high $162,000 for lightweight champion Frank Edgar. Joining “The Answer” in earning a six-figure salary for their performances at the event were Gray Maynard ($112,000), Thiago Silva ($110,000), and Clay Guida ($122,000). In addition to having netted $60,000 for “Fight of the Night” honors, both headliners’ take-home total was assisted by the UFC‘s decision pay their contracted win bonuses though neither competitor technically emerged with a victory given their highly memorable hard-fought draw.

As usual, a report confirming figures was released by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

Also walking away from Las Vegas with a sizable check in hand were Jeremy Stephens, who earned $96,000 with sixty thousand coming as a result of earning “Knockout of the Night” against Marcus Davis, and Dong Hyun Kim who netted $70k for outpointing Ultimate Fighter Season 5 champ Nate Diaz.

Equally notable in pay, though for a different reason, were Takanori Gomi and Brandon Vera who each earned more in sound defeat than six of the show’s successful fighters did.

I wonder if Maynard got scolded for his profanity while talking with Rogan in the octagon after the fight. Some of the UFC fighters have mentioned on Inside MMA that White really doesn’t like it–bad image–and tells the fighters not to cuss on the air during interviews.

Angry Mike, isn’t it funny that DANA WHITE, is the one worried about THE FIGHTERS giving the organization a bad image.

Their president is much more the role model haha.

  • MMA-LOGIC says:

So if Maynard did not get the bonuses he would have got $26,000 for a title shot?.

White’s position on profanity would be ironic to say the least..

Dana White is motivated by money. He is a hypocrite in many ways.
BJ Penn had to be pulled off Jens Pulver by the ref after Pulver had tapped and nothing happened. Babalu does it and he gets cut and shamed. A. Silva dances around and refuses to engage for nearly the entirety of 3 fights and is lauded as the best P4P but others do it for part of a fight or rd and are cut. Werdum beats 2 of the best HWs in the UFC at the time via stoppage but loses to 2 others and is screwed by the UFC but Baroni is 5-5 from his last 10 and gets hired, he is now 3-8 in the UFC. Jardine was 4-6 and they kept him on for 1 more loss, Vera is now 4-6 and it would not surprise me if he was kept on.
The rules are different for different fighters depending on their worth. So as long as Maynard keeps getting fight of the night he will be fine.

I really didn’t think the Edgar/Maynard fight was all that great…the 1st rd was awesome and the other 4 were typical Maynard/Edgar style decision rds! Jussayin!
