UFC hands out $120,000 in bonus money at TUF 12 Finale

Rarely does an individual walk away with $30,000 after being robbed a few hours prior to the receiving the cash, but such was the case Saturday in Las Vegas when featherweight Nam Phan was named as half of the evening’s “Fight of the Night”. Phan, who was believed by many to have earned a decision victory over Leonard Garcia in their bout, found himself on the wrong side of a split decision and the right side of the crowd’s support.

However, regardless of the questionable scoring, both men still walked away with thirty grand and the distinction after turning in one of the Ultimate Fighter Season 12 Finale’s best bouts by far.

News of the bonus was announced at the post-event press conference.

Though unaired, “Knockout of the Night”, as well as the related money, went to 10-1 Pablo Garza who flattened opponent Fredson Paixao less than a minute into their preliminary pairing with a devastating flying knee.

Rounding out the evening’s bonuses was Cody McKenzie’s continuance of Guillotine Choke dominance, as he notched the tenth consecutive victory by way of the hold in choking out fellow TUF 12 competitor Aaron Wilkinson and as a result earned the show’s “Submission of the Night” (in addition to the $30,000).

I just watched that fight again. Still not seeing how a single judge could have given that to Garcia. I love Garcia as much as the next guy, but he was getting picked apart in that fight and only landed a few decent haymakers while Phan was hitting and kicking him in the head at will.

Loved Joe Rogan’s rant about how we need new judging and thought that his line about how they shouldn’t have to worry about leaving it to the judges was spot on. I think it’s ridiculous that the phrase “don’t leave it to the judges” ever has to be said. What’s the point of having judges if they can’t judge a fight accurately? It’d be better to just toss a coin…

At least Pham got some justice despite the fact that this phony loss will forever be on his record. For whatever reason, the judges decision was so grossly inaccurate that no one else agreed with it including, to his everlasting credit, Leonard Garcia.

Anyone have an idea on how to eliminate the judges?

If you liked the Jose Aldo flying knee to Cub Swanson a while back, you’ll like this too. Actually made me cringe to hear the sound it made. Instant snap of the jaw bone. Brutal.

What a great card. The TUF card and the SF card were both awesome this weekend.
