Matt Hughes tops list of UFC 123 medical suspensions

Iconic 170-pounder Matt Hughes will be sidelined for sixty days (precautionary reasons) due to damage sustained in his co-headlining UFC 123 bout against rival B.J. Penn.

The former welterweight champion, who was knocked out by the Hawaiian twenty-one seconds into the opening round, must also avoid full-contact training until the period runs out.

News of Hughes’ suspension, as well as the other Mixed Martial Artists temporarily out of action, was made available by the Michigan Unarmed Combat Commission.

Four other fighters will join Hughes on the list of casualties emanating from Detroit including George Sotiropoulos, who will need to receive a doctor’s clearance before returning to action in relation to an eye poke he sustained during his “Fight of the Night”-winning scrap with Joe Lauzon.
