Bibiano Fernandes returning to ring on New Year’s Eve in Japan

DREAM featherweight champ Bibiano Fernandes appears set to join the line-up on December 31st at FEG’s annual year-end “Dynamite” event. Fernandes has been out of action since defeating Joachim Hansen this past March at DREAM 13 by way of split-decision due to a delay in payment for the performance.

Five Ounces of Pain was able to confirm news of the Brazilian’s expected appearance by a party with direct knowledge of the circumstances.

The BJJ-blackbelt is 8-2 overall and has won his last seven fights in a row. Fernandes’ only losses came in the second and third bouts of his career against divisional greats Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto and former WEC featherweight champ Urijah Faber. Comparably, he holds past victories over Hansen, Hiroyuki Takaya, Masakazu Imanari, and Bellator 145-pound title-holder Joe Warren.

  • Guthookd says:

I didn’t realized he had beaten Warren. I’ll have to look that one up. Weird…Kid beats Bibiano who beat Warren who beat kid.

I hope they pay him this time around.

  • Rece Rock says:

I would only except direct deposit, a money order or cash.

I’d like to see him stateside.

  • MMA-LOGIC says:

This guy and a few others like Hansen, Yamamoto, imanari, hioki, ishida and Samdro would make great editions to the US MMA scene.
Say what you like about Dream and WVR etc but 1 thing is for sure and that is they have very talented dudes in the lighter weights.
