Vitor Ribeiro, Ryan Couture return to action at Strikeforce Challengers 12

According to a press release from Strikeforce, Brazilian lightweight Vitor “Shaolin” Ribeiro will look to bounce back from a two-fight skid this November 19th at a Strikeforce Challengers show scheduled for Jackson, Mississippi. Ribeiro will face 9-3 Justin Wilcox in the card’s main event.

Though the 31-year old has stumbled three of the last four times he’s stepped into the ring, the losses came to a trio of highly-respected foes in the form of Shinya Aoki, Lyle Beerbohm, and JZ Cavalcante, and only dropped his overall record to 20-4. Comparably, Wilcox is currently riding a four-fight win streak and earned a decision win over Shamar Bailey in his previous Strikeforce appearance at a Challengers event this past May.

Also slated for the event, Ryan Couture will compete for the second time in his official MMA career against a yet-to-be-named adversary. Couture submitted opponent Lucas Stark a little more than a minute into his professional debut this past August.

  • Dufresne says:

Kinda excited to see Ribeiro fight. Dude is 20-4 with his four losses coming to opponents with a combined record of 80-14-3 and 2 NC. AND he took Aoki and Beerbohm to decisions.
    Not bad.

I’m also interested to see Lil’ Couture fight just because it’s kinda cool to see the kid of an active legend getting into the game. If he got his dad’s freak genetics and even half of his wrestling capabilities, he should go pretty far considering his sub game is already better than his old man’s.

  • Dufresne says:

Random side question: What is it with Brazilian guys going for Far East nicknames?

We’ve got Shogun, Ninja, Shaolin, and The Dragon that I can think of off the top of my head.

  • Guthookd says:

    Get it done Cooter Jr.
