Strong Card!! Lookin’ forward to Gettin’ it ON!!!

  • Dufresne says:

Holy hell Lauzon is looking vicious!!!

  • Dufresne says:

That was the MMA version of Lebron playing b-ball with those kids…

  • thomo says:

WOW Lauzon looked outstanding! That was a superb victory!!

  • moosebaby02 says:

    yes Dufresne lmao.
that was just sick. makes up for that shit frist fight

  • moosebaby02 says:

you could just see that one coming. great job on Miller

  • Dufresne says:

Why is Dana yelling? He has a mic…

  • moosebaby02 says:

    was thinking the same thing

  • JollyDV says:

    Come on Marcus!

  • Dufresne says:

Don’t taunt at the beginning of the fight dumby. You’re brother got away with it against Lawler after he was clearly winning the exchanges.

  • moosebaby02 says:

head butt. tht was a head butt

  • Dufresne says:

Marcus looks like he needs the same surgery Wandy had. He gets cut in almost every fight these days.

Get rid of some scar tissue and maybe some bone.

  • JollyDV says:

    This is one bloody fight.

  • Dufresne says:

Marcus has good uppercuts, he may need to try and get Diaz against the fence and dirty box with him. He’s really struggling with the reach here.

  • moosebaby02 says:

great fight buy Diaz and big nuts on Davis

  • Dufresne says:

    Damn nice choke by Diaz.

Good job by the ref on checking to see if Davis was out of not. Even better job of double checking your work.

  • Dufresne says:

    Maynard is looking good.

    Shame my feed isn’t…

  • moosebaby02 says:

he gets the job done. still is facking boring. but it can get him the belt that should already be his

  • marmalade_sally says:

Gray looked ok for the 3 minutes he fought. I appreciate the wrestling abilities but he never throws at all and doesn’t even set up the takedown. He just waits and waits. $50 bucks for A Maynard headlined card? Ughh.

  • Swing Em says:

Gray Maynard makes Jon Fitch look exciting.

  • Swing Em says:

Both are great at what they do, but it doesn’t make for exciting television thats for sure.

  • Swing Em says:

Nate Diaz has chokes & Marcus Davis has a lot heart if nothing else. Thats my FOTN so far.

  • Dufresne says:

I can’t believe how inefficient Maia has been on the ground so far. He’s clearly been dominating the fight, but I’ve never seen him have so many dominant positions and not even come close to locking in a sub.

  • Dufresne says:

    That was boring as hell.

  • MCM says:

I wish Mia would have stopped going for the sub. His GnP was looking really effective in this fight. Yeah, I just said Mia and GnP.

  • Dufresne says:

Completely agree MCM. In that 2nd round when he was softening up Miranda from the mount I was sitting there thinking, “Maia could get himself a TKO here if he keeps it up.”
But nope. He’d rather go for a sub, ignore the legs, end up on his feet. Lather, rinse and repeat. Blah.

  • Dufresne says:

Come on Randy. Need you to pull this off buddy.

  • Dufresne says:

Well I guess body shots aren’t gonna be effective against Toney…

  • Dufresne says:

9 months of takedown defense huh? Really?

He grabbed your ankle and you couldn’t stuff it, who the hell was teaching your takedown defense?

  • MCM says:

seriously, was anybody shocked by that?

  • Dufresne says:

    BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!

That was the best way that could have gone. Takedown, beat his face in for a bit, make him tap. So much sweeter than him actually going to sleep!!!!

  • Swing Em says:

At last it is settled, James “Taps Out” Toney can now go back to his day job.

  • Dufresne says:

    Hell yeah!

“Randy Couture: MMA Legend; UFC Hall of Fame Member; Multiple Time Champion; Multiple Weight Class Champion; Black Belt.”

    Sounds good to me.

  • Dufresne says:

Wow, Edgar got another takedown on BJ! That little dude can grapple!

  • Dufresne says:

BJ looks shocked and kinda worried about Edgars grappling already. Hope he can get his head right between the rounds.

  • Dufresne says:

BJs working that jab. Seems to be helping.

  • MCM says:

Edgar has good game plan. Stick and move, then take down and get back up before the sub. I hope his cardio holds out, looks like he’s starting to suck wind.

  • Dufresne says:

2 Rounds to Edgar so far.

BJ needs to work that kick more. When he was doing that at the beginning of the 2nd round he was giving Edgar something else to worry about and as a result his punches were landing more as well.

  • Dufresne says:

    Man, Edgar is looking incredible.

It seems like Edgar went out and made some improvements, but the same model BJ from last time showed up tonight.

    3 Rounds to Edgar…

  • marmalade_sally says:

Did BJ making any adjustments at all since the last fight?

  • marmalade_sally says:

    Finally a BJ takedown!

  • Dufresne says:

There we go Penn!!! Get on top and do your thing!

  • MCM says:

BJ needs to finish this fight or Frankie is walking away with 50-45 on all three cards this time.

  • MCM says:

That’s also the first time I’ve seen anyone get the better of Penn from the bottom.

  • Dufresne says:

    4-0 Edgar.

Looks like we’re getting Edgar v Maynard 2.

  • Dufresne says:

This is probably your last shot to win this fight BJ. You better make it count.

  • Dufresne says:

Congrats to Edgar. There’s no controversy in his win here.

  • Brendhan Conlan says:

If I ever meet Edgar I will apologize to him. Always felt he was undersized and didn’t give him enough credit against Penn. Great performance. Well done.

  • MCM says:

Now he avenges his loos to Maynard and solidifies him self as the best 155 on the planet.

  • Dufresne says:

Edgar beat BJ in every aspect of the game tonight. He absolutely deserves his belt and I have to move him to the #1 position in my LW ranking.

BJ needs to get back in the gym, work on his cardio, and get back in the cage as soon as possible. Losing twice in a row, both to the same guy has got to hurt his confidence. If he’s gonna build it back up he needs to get on it as soon as he can.

  • Swing Em says:

Frank Edgar really is “the Answer” at 155lbs. I hope he trashes Maynard.

  • Dufresne says:

And I guess we get to see Lauzon steamroll Gabe again. I don’t honestly mind though, it was a beautiful piece of work.

  • Swing Em says:

This is the first card i’ve seen in awhile that hasn’t had a KO or TKO on it.

  • BillyWarhol says:

Frankie Edgar fully completely Dominated Pudge Penn!! very impressive indeedydeed!! yeah J Lau looked amazing too – as expected K Flo was sent packin’ + it was quite Funny seein’ the Boxer Toney unable to throw even 1 Punch!! 😉 some very good Entertaining Cards!

  • Dufresne says:

According to fightmetric, Toney threw 6 punches and landed 4.

The problem is that Couture threw 50 and landed 41. But he also got 1 takedown, 1 mount, and 2 arm triangles.

Oh, and they credited Toney with 1 tapout as well.

  • fanoftna33 says:

great night of fights. Miller for sub of the night i think
Edgar vs Penn was very fun to watch, I feel the same way abiut Edgar as I do about Randy- never count him out.
Nice to see Kenny and Grey fight three solid rounds but Maynard is clearly better really look forward to Edgar Maynard 2
REALLY impressed with Diaz again. wow .

  • fanoftna33 says:

lauzon looked really good, but it always seems that guys who come back from knee surgery look very sluggish in there first fight back. maybe a rematch with Kenny for Lauzon or Gomi?
As for B J wouldnt mind seeing him fight the winner of Sherk vs Dunham.

  • Creature says:

toney/couture was just hilarious lol. i was VERY surprised and impressed with edgars performace, but with that said im thing my boy gray is gonna be the new LW champ soon enough

  • Dreadedfistofthenorthwest says:

Can’t wait for the Penn camp to come out with another tired excuse for why he lost.

  • Dufresne says:

Injured or not, Penn lost that fight largely due to his mental game. I’m not saying Edgar didn’t win the physical game as well, but he crushed Penn’s confidence early and he never let him get it back.

Penn looked pretty good in the first until Edgar got him with a takedown, then for the rest of the round he looked cautious and kinda concerned.

Penn looked pretty good in the second until about halfway through when Edgar got him on the ground multiple times. But after that he looked worried.

Penn looked terrible in the 3rd from bell to bell.

Then in the 4th Penn came out and looked like he was tired of playing and it was time to fight. He took Edgar down, got mount, and almost got back control, but after Edgar got out of that you could just see any remaining fight just drain out of him.

5th round was just Penn going through the motions. He had a couple of moments there where he looked like he was still in it, but before Penn could really establish any sort of edge, Edgar took it away.

Complete dominance by Edgar in the physical game and in the mental game.

  • Dufresne says:

Random thought: How awesome would a Lauzon/Sotiropoulos fight be?

  • fanoftna33 says:

Lauzon vs Sotiropolus would be great, George takes it I think but a great fight

  • Creature says:

I think with this 2nd loss a row 4 penn, it sets up a great fight with tyson griffin, or rematch with gomi or kenflo, but hopefully griffin :)

  • A really good and interesting card all around. I love that Grey and Kenny were on the card with BJ and Franky, gave Franky alot of modivation when he saw the Dominating performance by Gray.

Toney is the man for stepping up but the fool for thinking being stocky would be enough. I think he really thought that Couture would stand up and box him.

Damian didn’t impress me again although he is worth watching from time to time and Nate made it easy against a tired and aging fast Marcus Davis, I really saw him going for a title at one time.

Really good card. I can see Franky beating Gray and really holding the belt for the next couple of years. I am really really really hoping they lineup BJ to and the “Fire Ball Kid”next.

  • Creature says:

i think they will give gomi the winner of the garunteed slugfest between melvin guiliard and jeremy stephens now that i think about it

  • CQBRA03 says:

Please tell me, is there a more BORING fighter in the UFC than Gray Maynard? Him against Edgar is maybe the least anticipated title fight for me in MMA history!

  • Mad_Hatter_XX says:

Great card. Better than I expected

I think if Diaz stays at 170 he could put on exciting fight and possibly beat most of the 170 division. Would really like to see him v. Hardy, Fitch and loser of GSP/ Kos

KenFlo looked outclassed the entire match which was surprising. Maynard is boring but, he got the job done and that is what counts.

They hyped Maia like he was the best submission artist ever and he won all those titles etc but, he couldn’t put away someone who was totally outclassed on the ground and left himself open to submissions the entire match.

Couture/Toney went exactly as expected. Toney has no answer for takedowns and he was on his back in about 15 seconds. Toney should consider himself lucky he was fighting Couture. Alot of other wrestlers would have used position to punish him even more. Making him submit must have felt awesome after all the noise Toney has been making lately about the easy KO.

Edgar completely outworked BJ. I think BJ went from being focused to obsessed. Nothing wrong with training for an opponent hard but, I think his ego said” I’m BJ Penn, I am the best EVER. How can that little twirp think he can beat me I had at least 5 excuses why the previous match was a fluke” He convinced himself that he could just walk in and be BJ Penn and that would be enough. It wasn’t. At least he was classy in defeat. Still one of the best ever but, Edgar has his number.

  • BigDave says:

I’ve never been so happy to get a prediction wrong in my life. Watching Penn get outworked outclassed and flat out dominated was great. I hope he never gets another title shot because he is such a whiny little bitch, with no class.

  • BigDave says:

Oh and i forgot to mention, am I the only one that realizes Penn is 6-6 in the last 5 years. So much for anyone that would have him on a top pound for pound list.

  • Dufresne says:

He may be 6-6 in the last 5 years, but those 6 losses are to Edgar x2, GSP x2, Hughes, and Lyoto Machida.
The only one of those fighters that’s in his natural weight class is Edgar.

And lets be honest, anyone who’s gone against GSP more than once has lost to him, he too Hughes on short notice while Hughes was still in his old form, and when he fought Lyoto, BJ was 40 pounds above his natural weight came in 30 pounds lighter than Lyoto anyways, and still lasted 15 minutes with him.

At LW he’s 12-3-1 with all 3 losses and that draw being title fights.
At WW he’s 1-3 going 1-2 in title fights and the last loss being in a #1 contender fight
    At MW he’s 2-0
And at whatever weightclass is 191-220, he’s 0-1.
So the reason he’s on so many P4P lists is because he fights at so many weight classes, against legends in the sport, and wins in most of them.

  • Dufresne says:

That’s supposed to be “…he took Hughes on short…”

  • cutman says:

Didn’t have the $ to buy… But Joe’s fight was great… after that though it sounded like that it was not the best card… Am I right guys ??? Also did anyone really buy into the Couture/Toney fight because they couldn’t sell that crap to me….Nothing against Randy… Time to find some up and comers Quit being lazy…If you remember it is the freak show thing that got us banned all over in the first place….

  • Mad_Hatter_XX says:

The reason James Toney even got a shot wasn’t the freak show aspect it was his mouth. He was all over the sports media running his mouth making sure someone/anyone heard him.

If Dana White had ignored him and let him run his mouth calling out UFC and MMA in general and not being allowed to prove himself Dana and the UFC would have looked bad.

Toney got what he asked for and then some. Like I said before he is lucky Couture went easy on him. Toney was calling out Lesnar. I don’t think Brock would have been so nice to him. He turned Mir’s face into hamburger and Toney isn’t even the same universe with Mir as far as ground game.

Toney got his ass handed to him, Dana proved his point, Couture picked up an easy check. All is well.

  • Dufresne says:

It wasn’t the freak show aspect that got MMA banned in the US, it was the almost complete lack of rules.

Besides having no weight classes, no round limits, and judging system, if you look back at some of the first UFC events you’ll see things like “Submission (Chin to the Eye)” and headbutts, hair pulling, strikes to the back of the neck and head, and even groin shots were legal up until UFC 15.
