Phil Davis vs. Rodney Wallace slated for UFC 117 with Stanislav Nedkov injured

With only two weeks left before UFC 117, an injury to Stanislav Nedkov has forced him with withdraw from his fight against Rodney Wallace. Stepping up to the plate on short notice will be Phil “Mr. Wonderful” Davis.

News of the switch in opponents was first reported by MMAJunkie.com.

Davis is stepping up to face Wallace on two week’s notice. A former wrestling champion who has impressed fans in his first two fights in the UFC, Davis dominated former WEC champion Brain Stann at UFC 109 and then executed a beautiful Anaconda Choke against Alexander Gustafson at UFC 112. Along with Jon Jones, Davis is considered to be one of the future stars of the UFC, and with good reason.

Wallace is 0-2 in the UFC with defeats to the likes of Brian Stann during The Ultimate Finale 10 and Jarred Hamman at UFC 111. Wallace was undefeated at 9-0 before joining the UFC and now holds a career record of 9-2.

UFC 117 occurs on August 7 and will emanate from the Oracle Arena in Oakland, California.

Davis has looked good so far, and I’m always a fan of someone pulling off an anaconda choke. I don’t have anything against Wallace, I’m just going to be pulling for Davis here.

Maybe it’s the old PSU pride coming out in me, but I don’t see this going past the second round. Davis has shown incredible ground game for this only being his 3rd fight. I don’t see this going past the 2nd round via Davis by submission. WAR PSU!!!!!
