Paulo Filho scratched from another bout, Hector Lombard vs. Jay Silva set for Bellator 18

In the ongoing saga of Paulo Filho’s career has once again hit another bump in the road as he will not be able to fight against Hector Lombard at Bellator 18, set for this Thursday.

According to Gracie Mag, Filho ran into problems with his visa after his managers reportedly make mistakes.

“It seems the event took too long in sending out the letter I needed to present at the consulate and I’m not sure but it could be there was some kind of failure on the part of my managers. So, I won’t get my visa in time,” said Filho during a recent conversation with Gracie Magazine.

Josh Gross recently confirmed that the bout between Lombard and Filho has been called off via his Twitter account.

Lombard has been slated to face off with Jay Silva, a UFC Veteran and native of Brazil known for his knockout power, as a late replacement for Bellator 18.

Since Filho has exited the WEC after his now legendary bizarre fight against Chael Sonnen, he has ran into problems with the Dream promotion, and lately the Bitetti Combat promotion over personal issues. His originally scheduled opponent was the promotion’s Middleweight Champio Hector Lombard. The fight was scheduled to be a non-tournament super fight.

    LOL.

If Filjo couldn’t get his Visa in time, how the hell is Silva getting his in a hot rush?

    Probably better for Lombard anyway….

On another note…..God damn I hope Comcast resums airing BFC.

This is really a shame, because Hector Lombard is without a doubt the real deal, and Filho when he’s on is a force to be reckoned with. Saw a bunch of Bellator events recently late at night on MUN2 cable, and Lombard is a natural born killer.

Wish for Filho that he gets it together, but don’t know how many more chances he’ll have to prove his skills, with his recent track record.

This would have been a great way for Paulo to keep some momentium going, and for Lombard to showcase his skills. Good for Bellator for having a solid back up plan in place and still giving us a decent fight.

That’s a Damn shame. Way to not let Lombard prove himself

  • in another report, Bellator claimed they had done everything in a timely fashion. Regardless of who is at blame, this can’t be good for Filho. You get better odds at winning the lottery than signing him to a fight and for him to show up in fighting shape. It sucks to because I really like watching him fight.

hmm I guess email or a fax machine wasn’t an option all these weeks before the event …excuses, excuses… Atleast bfc had a decent back up plan still would have rather seen the original bout.

its a shame alright. Jay Silva is a b rate fighter, less than really. oh no sorry, hang on he’s a UFC vet, shit i forgot he lost two fights back to back this year which make him a veteran of a promotion which has been running since 1993.
Aside from wanting to kill someone every time i hear the phrase UCF veteran, this could be an entertaining fight

hindsight, i was preparing to debate your claim regarding silvas veteran status in the ufc, but decided to actually look up the literal definition of veteran to avoid talking out my ass. as it turns out, you are completely right. veteran implies a long term of service or participation. i would hardly call 2 fights a long run. on top of that, i find it difficult to see him as a veteran of professional mma as a whole considering he is only 8 fights in. in essence, good call on the misuse of the english language.
