Clay Guida vs. Rafael Dos Anjos likely for UFC 117

A lightweight battle between Clay Guida and Rafael Dos Anjos is in the works for UFC 117 according to a recent report at MMArecap.

Guida recently snapped a two fight losing streak at the first UFC on Versus event, finishing Shannon Gugerty with an arm-triangle choke in the second round. It was the fourth fight that he has finished in the UFC, and the submission netted him a 50,000 dollar Submission of The Night bonus. Guida was originally scheduled to face former lightweight champion Sean Sherk, but Sherk pulled out with an injury. Guida is 6-5 in the promotion.

Dos Anjos is coming off of three straight victories over Rob Emerson, Kyle Bradley, and recently Terry Etim at UFC 112. His submission victory over Etim netted him a 75,000 dollar Submission of the Night bonus. Anjos is 3-2 in the promotion, with his two losses being his first two fights in the promotion.

UFC 117 wil take place on August 7 from the Oracle Arena in Oakland, California.

I think Dos Anjos is the better fighter with Guida having the wrestling edge. I can see Guida getting submitted or even getting TKO’d by Dos Anjos. Sure we havent seen Dos Anjos TKO anyone in the UFC but i think its about that time. Dos Anjos has shown good improvements while Guida is still basically the same imo.

  • Makington says:

I don’t think Dos Anjos has the power to TKO much of anybody, but definitely not Guida imo. Not to say he isn’t a great athlete, because I love both fighters and a calling FotN for this one, but neither has much KO power to really stop people. I don’t think Guida can overwhelm Raphael as handily as he does to many lightweight’s, but I still seeing him controlling an exciting decision.

If Dos Anjos is smart he will remember how he brutalized Rob Emerson’s legs with kicks all night and stop Guida’s never ending takedowns with some of those same leg kicks.

  • JOEgun says:

@Makington Yea i guess youre right about their punching power, but i was picturing more of Dos Anjos somehow getting top control on Guida and putting him in an awkward position and rain shots, one of those “not intelligently defending yourself”(but not in really danger of getting your lights put out) stoppages.

I have to admit that I am a bit biased when it comes to a fellow brother carpenter-All bias aside-I see Clay just “out fighting” the very capable brazilian

After that head kick Clay took and came right back from I don’t see him getting KO’ed. Rafa should use the leg kicks like he did against Rob, because if he doesn’t I see Clay winning by GnP.

  • IF Rafa loses, it’ll be by a decision. No way he’s getting finished by Guida. Striking and submissions advantage to Rafa, wrestling to Guida. I’m thinking submission victory or another leg kicking clinic to unanimous decision victory for Rafa.
