John “Doomsday” Howard vs. Jake Ellenberger set for “UFC on Versus 2”

A welterweight showdown between fellow fast-rising UFC prospects has been laid out for the second “UFC on Versus” event.

The prospect of the bout was first reported by MMA Diehards.

Nothing is set in stone through the promotion at this point but the card is currently expected to take place on August 1 from the EnergySolutions Arena in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Ellenberger is anxious to return to action due to the fact that his UFC 111 clash with Ben Saunders was scrapped in order to give Jon Fitch an opponent for the event. Ellenberger currently sports a career record of 22-5, while going 1-1 in the UFC.

Howard has been on an absolute rampage since entering the UFC in January of 2009, stringing together a succession of four straight victories over the likes of Chris Wilson, Tamdan McCrory, Dennis Hallman and Daniel Roberts.

Ellenburger is a pretty solid fighter with above average standup and Doomsday was looking kinda sloppy last time out. As long as Ellenburger can keep his chin out of the way of Howard’s fist, I think he might pull this off.

I think this could be a very tough fight for both guys. I think if Jake has really addressed his conditioning then he should be able to get a w here.

  • Davey D says:

I got Jake Ellenburger winning this one. I’ve heard that he was absolutely livid when he found out his fight with Ben Saunders got scrapped. I’m thinking he’ll do everything in his power to make sure this goes right for him. Doomsday has got some hands though. With these gloves, anything can happen. This bout is gonna be fireworks and I can’t wait to see it.

Have they announced any of the rest of the card? I am curious…..
