Stephan Bonnar loses UFC 110 appeal, ready for part II with Krzystztof Soszynski

The Combat Sports Authority of New South Wales has come to the decision that Stephan Bonnar’s appeal over a defeat suffered due to a cut at the hands, or head, of Krzystztof Soszynski will not be overturned according to a recent report at

Bonnar faced Soszynski during UFC 110 and mid-way through the final round an accidental head butt left Bonnar’s dome spewing blood like a water fountain which ultimately led to the bout’s conclusion. The referee disagreed that it was a head butt that opened Bonnar up, stating that a punch caused the cut.

Both men have stated that they are open to a second go around, and a potential rematch may happen at the Ultimate Fighter 11 Finale on June 19.

Well aint that some bs. Why dont they view the tape?? Im assuming they didnt view it at all because the head butt was absolutely obvious in the replays. Seems shady to me that they didnt overturn it with access to no better proof than video. Maybe those dumb asses think headbutts are legal. Stupid but, oh well

  • fanoftna33 says:

With both of these fighters being very classy about an obvious head butt it makes me wonder why the commission didnt overturn it. I understand leaving the power in the refs decision but he was unable to see the headbutt and not incompetent like some other ref’s. Maybe they feel it will make them look bad to change the official decision. But both guys agreed to a rematch and we get three more rounds of a great battle.

  • gy614x says:

wow, Joe Rogan pointed this out like 450 times on the replay from about 20 different angles, Sozynski knew it was a headbutt, and obviously Bonnar knew it was a headbut, Sozynski may have been winning about a lot can happen in 1 round…what a dirt decision.

that btw was probably one of the best fights ive seen blow for blow in a long long time…….

  • BiG BaD BuLL says:

This is why instant replay is sorely needed in MMA. Rumble’s eye poke, Cro cop and Al- turk, and Bonnar are all prime examples.

  • Makington says:

They already implemented instant replay Bull. It was used to make a very good call in Bones Jones’ fight against Hamill. They have, however, also said they don’t want to start relying on it so that the refs don’t get to use it to the point where they don’t have to be good refs, which I guess makes sense, but fights like this make you wonder. Why wasn’t the instant replay used in this fight? No fucking idea. Maybe it had something to do with it being a prelim?

On the plus side, I think a lot of people are calling on the rematch. Not to insult Krzystztof, but rather as a compliment as of how great of a fight that was. They might even make the ppv broadcast next time out :)

  • Rece Rock says:

UFC will def. give these guys the rematch…
what else can they do with Bonnar anyway…? the rematch will give him some more borrowed time in the octagon- i like the guy but he’s def. on the downside of his in-ring career…

  • Madmax says:

BULL, your back!!!nice to see ya.

  • sexy-yama says:

the NSW commision in Australia disgust me lazy pricks didn’t they watch the fight? I’m disgusted lazy australian’s and I’m from australia, not to mention the few imbeciles who keep ranting about how its human cockfighting etc freaking idiots

  • manny says:

He appealed only so he wouldn’t get fired by the UFC and lost. Crying for a re-match on a fight he was losing. Now we know he is worried about his job…I would have cut him along time ago, especially after steroids, and losing 3 straight, not an interesting fighter but just ur typical mma fighter just so happens to be in the ufc. But for how much longer?

After UFC 100 Dana White and Bonnar were back stage. Bonnar stopped Dana and apologized for his performance because I’m sure he knew that made what..2, 3 in a row or something (we all know what that means in the UFC). So Dana said “Stephan, don’t worry about it buddy, you’ll always have a home here, you aren’t going anywhere.” For some reason I believe Dana. Stephan is a great guy but he makes an even better gatekeeper, and you need a few Phil Baroni’s around, guys you know will slug it out and no doubt bring the fight and excitement win or lose.

  • mu_shin says:

Poor call by the commission in New South Wales, but we will get the rematch, so it’s all good.

Just wondering if three months will be enough time to heal that cut if they fight again in June, or if one good shot opens it again and ends the fight the same way. I’m sure Stephan took some stitches on that one, maybe a few more weeks to heal gives him a better chance to win or lose on merit, and not on a cut…
