As recently reported, UFC welterweight Mike Swick announced he’d undergone an MRI to examine damage to his left elbow sustained during his UFC 109 bout with Paulo Thiago and expected an update on the situation during a doctor’s visit planned for early this week. That appointment has now come and gone, and as Swick suspected, the results were “pretty bad”.
The American Kickboxing Academy product took to his Twitter and laid it out for fans and media, saying doctors had detected “bone spurs and fragments, inflammation and possible nerve damage.” In regards to treatment, Swick continued that he “will need it scoped for sure and possibly have a nerve re-routed.” He closed things out by saying he will rush to have it operated on, maybe even as early as next week.
No timetable has been set for his return. Swick is currently on medical suspension from the Nevada State Athletic Commission due to the injury and must receive an orthopedist’s clearance on the elbow if hoping to return before early August.
