Etim vs. Dos Anjos, Davis vs. Gustafsson set for UFC 112

A much rumoured bout between UK submission artist Terry Etim and Rafael Dos Anjos has officially been confirmed by the Ultimate Fighting Championship for UFC 112.

UFC 112 will take place from Abu Dhabi on April 10 while airing live on Pay-Per-View.

Etim and Anjos will be joined on the card by the UK’s Paul Kelly when he faces of with Matt Veach.

Also added to the card is the light-heavyweight battle between heavy handed Swede Alexander Gustafsson and Phil Davis, who won last time out against Brian Stann at UFC 109.

It will be the first time Terry Etim has competed on the main card of a UFC event despite previously having seven fights with the organisation. In his last two outings, Etim has taken home the submission of the night bonus as well as winning his previous four fights. No doubt he will be looking to shine on the main card and get himself in the pecking order for bigger fights in the future.

Despite losing his first two fights in the UFC, lightweight Rafael Dos Anjos will always be remembered for being the victim of a brutal knockout on his debut at UFC 91 at the hands of Jeremy Stephens. Since then however, he has gone on to win two fights in the UFC against Rob Emerson and Kyle Bradley. A win against a quality fighter like Etim would see Dos Anjos moving up the ladder in the 155 lb division.

UFC 112 is now starting to take shape. The UFC middleweight championship will be on the line when Anderson Silva takes on fellow Brazilian, Demian Maia. The lightweight belt will also be up for grabs as champion BJ Penn takes on precision striker Frankie Edgar.

The card is looking pretty good.

I personally love watching Etim’s big tall self fight. I was lucky enough to track down a number of his undercard apprearences and he is for real. If Dos Anjos comes with his A game this should be a great fight.

Phil Davis sure got another fight quick. I have to wonder what the plan is for him. Unfortunatelyl I wasn’t able to see his undercard performance on 109 vs. Stann. Anyone know if his fight is going to be on the main card this time? I kind of doubt it considering how stacked the card is becoming.

Phil davis is on the prelims..that should be a good fight he has got some good skills he could have finshed stann a number of times if he had submission skills but the guy has talent and hes one to look out for!im glad etim is on the main card 7 ufc appearences and a 4 fight win streak its about time im expecting big things!

I think Gustaffson has the more diverse skill set, but it doesn’t help you that much when a wrestler like Davis has the ability to take you down and keep you down whenever he wants. I think it will be a great grinder, but not really an exciting nail biter of a fight.

Etim/Dos Anjos on the other hand is going to be a war. Both extremely well rounded fighters who always bring a good fight and are very hard to finish. I expect we’ll see a lot of everything in this fight, with even a potential FotN bonus if they can keep up the pace.

this card is top heavy with names, but filled out with exciting match ups. Interesting to see how all fighters deal with the outdoor venue and extreme heat

@markington..imo i dont see how gustafason has the more diverse skill set as he is just a striker where as phill davis has wrestling and does mauy thai with b.v

  • KTru says:

I would have to disagree. Gustaffsson tried out for the Olympic National Team in wrestling. Although it may not be as explosive as Davis’, he has faced top competition. As for Phil Davis, he has just started training Muay Thai and one day he may be as equally as explosive, Alex has a definitve advantage there.
