Gilbert Yvel vs. Ben Rothwell likely for UFC 115

Just hours ago it was commonly believed that Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic would be facing off with Ben Rothwell in his next bout, while Pat Barry would be slugging it out with Gilbert Yvel; However, in this constantly unfolding world of MMA news it has now been unveiled that instead of facing off with Cro Cop, Rothwell will in fact face off with Yvel, while Barry and Mirko are expected to wage battle on the same card.

Both heavyweight bouts are expected to take place at UFC 115.

The recent match-up between Rothwell and Yvel was first reported at, citing verbal agreements being in place for the anticipated match-up.

UFC 115 is expected to take place from the GM Place in Vancouver, British Columbia on June 12.

Rothwell was last seen on the receiving end of a one-sided mugging at the hands of Cain Velasquez during UFC 104, while Yvel is also hoping to rebound from an unsuccesful UFC debut where he was TKO’d by Junior dos Santos at UFC 108.

They should have matched up Yvel vs Cro Cop.

yeah that was provably a better match up
but Ivel is coming of a lost and they want Cro Cop to move up in competition not down

plus i think that Ivel had a pretty good chance at TKO-ing Cro Cop and the UFC does not want that

  • Rich S. says:

Yeah, CroCop/Yvel and Berry/Rothwell sounded good to me..

But technically, it does make more sense this way..
Two guys coming off wins are facing each other..
Two guys coming off losses are facing each other..
    As basic as it gets..

Yvel and Rothwell both got torn down by top 5 UFC HWs…no shame in that. I’m all for this change in the line up.

If Rothwell wins he gets to hold his position, however tilted the odds may be in favor of Yvel. If Yvel wins then it’s not two in a row and he gets to remain relevent.

If Barry beats Cop, it’s two good wins in a row…and actually….I’m pretty sure that is exactly what’s going to happen. Barry has had a few hard losses in the past, but I still believe he is under rated.

I pick Gilbert in round 1 and Barry in round 1….both KO’s.

  • KTru says:

“Barry has had a few hard losses in the past”

you mean his first loss or his last? Because it’s the same thing, he has lost one….

  • Loser leaves town match. Gilbert was highly hyped against JDS and he looked like a bat boy being told to pitch hit for the yankees. Big Ben was talked about as being Cain’s toughest challenge and all he did was get punched in the face for seven minutes with a minute break after the first five.

    Big Ben by TKO
I dont like Yvel, damned eye gouger.

  • Rece Rock says:

Glad they didn’t match up cro cop n him…

Maybe now mirko will be more aggressive with a more dangerous opponent
