Jacob Volkmann cuts to 155 to face Ronys Torres at UFC Fight Night 21

Ronys Torres

Former UFC welterweight Jacob Volkmann will be slashing 15 aditional pounds from his frame to make his debut in the UFC’s lightweight division against Ronys Torres during UFC Fight Night 21.

Volkmann recently announced the match-up on his Twitter account:

I will be fighting UFN 21 in North Carolina against Ronys Torres at 155 pounds on March 31st. Hopefully it will make Spike.

The March Fight Night card will take place from the Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte, North Carolina, with Kenny Florian meeting up with Takanori Gomi in the headlining match-up.

Volkmann had entered the UFC with an undefeated record of 9-0 but has since suffered consecutive defeats at the hands of Paulo Thiago and Martin Kampmann, while Torres recently made his UFC debut at UFC 109 where he suffered a hard-fought decision at the hands of a much improved Melvin Guillard.

good move for volkman, he was kinda small at ww.
he has good skills, but somehow i always have the feeling that he lacks the needed killer-instinct. but hopefully he can surprise me.

Felt about the exact same qat. Torres on the other hand showed tremendous heart and fought the best Guillard we’ve seen to an extremely close decision.

I like Volkmann, but I don’t think he is well rounded enough to beat Torres, but he might gain alot with not having to face larger guys. With the power difference he might not get dropped atleast 2 or 3 times in each fight.

This is do or die for both fighters here, which is unfortunate because they both impress.

I understand why he would make the cut but when you consider the fact that he’s going into a weight class that seems to be striving just to be number 2… kinda sux but who knows what will happen in the next year or so.

Volkmann showed good skills, he should feel very lucky he is getting another opportunity after going 0-2 though. Someone high five his manager for me!
