Andrei Arlovski vs. Fres Oquendo set for boxing exhibition in February

If you find yourself wondering from time to time where Andrei Arlovski  disappeared to following his knockout destruction at the hands of Fedor Emelianenko in early 2009, rest assured that you are not alone.

It now looks like “The Pitbull” will be making his return to the ring in February, although it won’t be of the mixed martial arts variety, as Andrei has agreed to take on veteran pugilist Fres Oquendo in a boxing exhibition this month

Arlovski’s camp recently confirmed the high profile smoker which has been set for February 27 from the Fontainebleau Miami Beach hotel in Florida at a charity event titled “The Blacks Anual Galla“.

All of the proceeds from the event will got to The Consequences Charity, a nonprofit organization that strives to deter adolescent criminal behavior through community support and intervention programs.

Arlovski is currently coming off of consecutive defeats in MMA at the hands of Brett Rogers and Fedor Emelianenko, while Oquendo is a twelve-year boxing veteran with a current record of 31-5.

I smell The Pitbull getting KO’d for some reason…….

Yeah I think so too, Arlovski’s boxing was good for MMA not in pro boxing terms. The dude he’s facing won the Golden Gloves. Granted he was stopped by older more experienced boxers, I really don’t see AA winning. His striking defense has big holes in it that will get exposed even quicker by a pro boxer than Rogers, or Fedors wild swings.

MMA strikers do not usually do well when they venture into the land of professional boxing, as I imagine a pure boxer would probably do pretty poorly in MMA. Anderson Silva was 1-1 in his pro boxing career, and I would say his striking and head movement are better than Arlovski’s.

This is just an exhibition bout so most likely Fres will go easy on him and Arlovski will try not to get koed probably wearing headgear, he is fighting a very high level boxer and Fres should be able to outbox without really hurting Andre pretty easily.

    Hahaha.

Arlovski by ko. Fres is pretty slow and andrei needless to say is not.

You guys…it’s an exhibition. There will be no KOs. Think Fedor vs. Mousasi exhibition…..no one is going to get hurt.

It’s all for charity, this isnt Rocky 4 dammit, Fres may be a little slow for boxing but up against a still very green boxer he will look like a cat toying with a mouse.

When’s this guy getting back in the cage?? – that’s the question.

speaking of Andrei i watched Universal Soldier last night with him and JCVD & Dolph in it, was surprisingly OK

Universal Solider was one of Vam Damms better movies, I liked Cyborg the most.
What do you think of JCVD trying to get liscened to fight recently?

  • hindsightufuk says:

i dont understand a boxing exhibition match.
i understand a grappling exhibition (Fedor/Moussasi), showing moves, throws subbmissions etc
    i understand an mma/wrestling exhibition (Coleman/Randleman UFC 11)
    i understand a boxing/mma exhibition (Ali/Inoki)
but how do you do a boxing exhibition without actually hitting each other hard? i mean, there is no other aspect to boxing except punching hard in the head. if you cant exhibit that, whats the point?

  • fanoftna33 says:

Just like when the Pros spar an exhibition will probably be at 50-75%. We will most likely see lots of nice technique and combos without the power to ko. Should be good to see Andrei against a real pro because he makes most MMA fighters look bad.

i reckon with the right training he may have been able to cut it, shame he didnt try years ago though.
He could still be a big draw in a japan show, put him up against some old timer in a work on new years eve, it’d be a ratings buster!

You can look on youtube and find a few years ago Dolph Lundgren had a Russian (I belive) type of celebrity boxing match against former ufc champion Oleg Taktarov. And Dolph didnt do all that bad.

  • MMA-LOGIC says:

He should be fighhting Rogers, Big Foot or Aleks in Strikeforce instead.
