UFC Prelims on Spike Draws 1.7 Million Viewers

The UFC 109 Prelims drew an impressive 1.7 million viewers on Spike TV with Mac Danzig vs. Justin Buchholz and Melvin Guillard vs. Ronny Torres being shown, according to MMAJunkie.com.

The previous record was held by UFC 108 which had Cole Miller vs. Dan Lauzon and Martin Kampmann vs. Jacob Volkmann, which drew 1.5 million viewers.

The UFC Prelims first started when the promotion was set go against Floyd Mayweather’s return to boxing in September and were only seen as a one—off event. When the event drew 1.3 million viewers, the decision was made to due these events full time with the exception of UFC 107 (Delayed due to an award show) and international events.

Fighters such as Ryan Bader, Pat Barry, Kendall Grove, Ben Saunders, and Efrain Escudero have picked up victories on the Spike specials.

    I didn’t see the prelims but they had to be better than the main card.
    Guys such as Ryan Bader, Pat Barry, Kendall Grove, Ben Saunders, and Efrain Escudero on the prelims and Phil Davis on the main card? I am not 100% sure but if you were new to the sport I think this UFCs main card would put you off MMA.

  • All of those fighters’ last fights were on the Spike portion of the card.

    Phil Davis’s fight was an untelevision prelim that made it to the PPV.

    What exactly is your point?

    I understand but it was just a poor exhibition of MMA on the main card and for whatever reason Davis made it to the pay per veiw he was part of a sub-par UFC.
