Brock Lesnar to make big announcement today on ESPN Sportscenter at 11 am ET

While a press conference was previously expected to be held by the UFC this week to clear up the dark cloud that has hovered over the future of the promotion’s current heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar, it now appears as though the news will surface in a somewhat less formal setting.

Lesnar will appear on tomorrow evening’s ESPN Sportscenter broadcast which will kick off at 11 am ET according to a recent report from MMAJunkie.com who were recently able to confirm the news through UFC officials.

Lesnar has been missing from action since his UFC 100 mugging of Frank Mir in July of 2009.

Brockamania has been running wild throughout the mixed martial arts community in the days since the massive champion’s absence, with one of the more absurd published reports stating that the normally 300+ pound former NCAA champion wrestler has somehow managed to dwindle down to the 220 pound mark.

Common sense and numerous reports from those close to Lesnar would lead one to conclude that the former WWE superstar will be making a return to the Octagon sometime in the future, and hopefully with tomorrow’s announcement some of the lingering questions hanging over the oversized head of Lesnar will finally be laid to rest.

As it stands currently, Shane Carwin and Frank Mir are set to square off at UFC 111 to decide the promotion’s interim heavyweight tile in Brock’s absence.

I sure am interested in seeing what kind of physical shape he’s in. Although I am not a fan of the whole Brock Lesnar “bit”….. I do respect his athleticism and appreciate the attention he brings MMA.

It is also nice to see ESPN treating MMA news as legitimate sport news. Get healthy Brock, We got people you need to scrap with!

  • Yourdaddydevilandlord says:

How pissed would Mir be if Lesnar came out and said he is ready to face Carwin at 111? If he was, what would the UFC do? Or maybe he says he will be ready for the winner. Or he just wants us to know he is healthy enough to climb on top of his wife(who’s gotta be looking worn out bad now) and drink Coors Light again.

  • David Andrest says:

Brock will announce he will return to the UFC as a Middleweight.

Walking around at 220lbs. he feels he can cut the final 35 and challenge Anderson Silva.

    I keed I keed.

Hope its a return date and he has a clean bill of health.

Well done, Yourdaddydevilandlord. That is a good one!!

“Or he just wants us to know he is healthy enough to climb on top of his wife”

  • Kuch says:

He’s going to call out the winner of Mir/Carwin.

  • KTru says:

making an annoucement on “the worldwide leader of sports” in my opinion is not less formal, Cory.

Lesnar has made MMA a story on the grandest stage of sports journalism. Like him or not, everyone will be tuning into what he has to say. “whatever” it may be.

Brock Lesnar and Mark McGwire will be together admitting they both took steroids….

  • Bad Monkey says:

Just to prove he’s good to go, at the end of the interview he should jump and yell, ‘BROCK SMASH!!!’ and then wreck the set.

Once the set is destroyed, he’ll finish by delivering a series of F-5’s to all the little weasel sportscasters.

I’m very excited to see Brock back and healthy, love him or hate him, he makes MMA more exciting.

  • Glad to hear the rumblings that he’ll be announcing his return. It would have been terrible to see such a promising MMA career cut short.

VERY FUNNY!-this is all good news and im tired of the smoke and mirrors surrounding the story the last 3 months

  • xtreme_machine says:

    he is ok

it is all hype to keep him relevant and for his return

  • Richard Stabone says:

    He’s baaaaack.

Anyone think the announcment might be bigger than just a return date? There were a couple articles about Couture saying he was already training and will be back sooner than most think.

Perhaps he will be Dana Whites trump card to counter program the April 17th CBS Strikeforce card that has Fedor, Henderson and Mousasi? Perhaps it will be to announce a TV deal with ESPN? Dana White had mentioned a TV deal last summer. Something tells me VS wasn’t the epic tv deal he was talking about. Perhaps it will be a combination of the two. He will be returning in April and fighting for free on ESPN?

I just don’t see him being on ESPN just to say he is back. I think it will be something bigger. Thoughts?

  • Damn it Roshambo I hope you’re right. If the UFC signs with ESPN we will get more free fights more exposure and more of everything MMA needs! Then Strikeforce will have to step it up and have more events and maybe get organized so we can look forward to their events with some anticipation of who’s fighting who. But Brock may also be on there to challenge Fedor or some other ridiculous publicity stunt that I wouldnt put past DW to want his biggest and most controversial star to make.

This is major. Let the dream matchups begin again along with the heavyweight division being made whole!!! Yes!!!

  • dpk says:

He is going to fight the Nog/Velasquez winner in May, and set up another unification fight with the Mir/Carwin winner. Just my guess.

I’d love to see UFC on ESPN, but I think UFC is angling toward a deal with NBC, now that they own versus.

  • BillyWarhol says:

Yeah Get Healthy Brock + comeback 110% Dude!!

  • Unabomberman says:

    Hmmm.

Hopefully it will be good news.

I don’t know, but I think Brock must be itching for Carwin to hand Mir his ass. Spending the half your MMA career fighting Frank Mir must not be his idea of fun.

  • MMA-LOGIC says:

If he was coming back to the UFC I would of thought Dana would announce it. Fighters usally hold prees conferences like this to say “I am retiring”. If he is only 220 it will take years to put on 80pnds to become as big as he was. 80 pnds is a lot of mass. I hope he comes back but if he is only 220 I doubt it will be any time soon.

  • primetime says:

This article says the announce is at 11pm on Sportscenter…Is that right or is it 11am ?

  • cocoonofhorror says:

hmmm i seem to remember a certain poster saying something about a Brock return being inevitable and being flamed for it. who was that? cant remember exactly, but i bet the n00bs that doubted him feel pretty dumb.

and lol at D’anusbeing butt hurt because he cant set up a press conference and promote “the most incredible comeback in sports history ZOMGZ!!!!!!!” the doctors saidz hed nevar walk again!!!!!! 😆 😆

  • Rece Rock says:

I;m sure he is just going to say a prohected date for his return… making an appearnace and looking healthy will keep his stocj high and keep him in the fans thoughts… he will probably need until the summer just like they originally stated…I think the UFC and Brock’s handelers just needed to keep his relevancy afloat and also this will help the Interim fight mean that much more, when Brock says he’ll be back to smash whomever wins the interim championship- Mir Vs. Brock the rubber match let the hype begin…

P.S. i’m sure DW would much rather ESPN interview him and have it on a national/ world stage then announcing it at a pre or post fight press conference… All about the BRANDING of the UFC and it’s product.

  • He is going to fight the Nog/Velasquez winner in May, and set up another unification fight with the Mir/Carwin winner.

I was actually thinking about this scenario while bored at work a few hours ago. I like it as the best one. I just like Unabomberman dont think Brock wants Mir again because its kind of weak to be 5-1 or 4-2 and 3 of those fights being Frank Mir. Plus the payoff as a PPV would be so much better with Mir actually getting to beat other people AND Brock getting to beat other people. If Brock fought Nog or Cain first it would at least give us something cool to look forward to.
Carwin is such and interesting opponent for Brock as both of them are Mirror images of each other in terms of style, size and background. Granted Brock has more wrestling cred but Carwin has shown better submission skills and Carwin has Greg Jackson. So that’s the most interesting fight in in the HW division. But if Brock could beat The winner of Nog vs. Cain first it would look so much better on his record no matter who he fought between Mir or Carwin.

And anyway you break it down its the most interesting scenerio for the unification of the HW belt.

Can’t wait to see Brock fight again

  • KTru says:

    Lesnar was just on ESPN.

  • gy614x says:

Good news that Lesnar will be back in action, and according to him he lost 40 pounds and put 30 back on, so he should be around the 290 mark.

I was never really a Lesnar fan but its relieving to know hes good and HES BACK.

Lookin forward to seein you brock

  • KTru says:

    whoops touch submit button.

he looked the same, he acts the same
Dana says look for him being back in the summer. Carwin/Mir still for interim title

All things back to normal in the UFC

  • retrofitting123 says:

yeah all good news. why did they say yesterday on several sites it wass 11pm
