Marcus Davis set to face Jonathan Goulet at UFC 113

Marcus Davis will attempt to avoid the first three-fight losing streak of his career on May 1 when he steps into the Octagon against Jonathan Goulet in Montreal at UFC 113.

“The Irish Hand Grenade” informed fans of his plans today on his Twitter page, saying he’d signed a contract to face the French-Canadian at the upcoming event.

Davis most recently suffered the first knockout of his career in a losing effort to Ben Saunders at UFC 106 after losing a split-decision to the welterweight division’s top contender, Dan Hardy, in his previous bout.

Goulet has been out of action since December 2008 but is 22-10 as a professional and will certainly have the Canadian crowd on his side.

The card appears to be a stacked one, as it is also rumored to feature a clash between fellow 170-pounders Paul Daley and Josh Koscheck, Kimbo Slice’s return to the Octagon against Matt Mitrione as first reported by FiveOuncesofPain.com, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson settling his score with Rashad Evans, and a rematch between light heavyweight champ Lyoto Machida and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.

Not to bag on Goulet, but I think Davis should be able to avoid three in a row pretty easily. If Goulet pulls it into the 2nd round I’ll be surprised.

    Great card!!!

Ooh boy, Goulet’s fighting again. Seriously the only time he’s newsworthy is when he’s on the receiving end of someone’s KO highlight reel. With this card being so stacked, do they really need to bring in Goulet to help put asses in the seats? Perhaps he has one fight left on his contract and the UFC is trying to make the most of it.

if this card holds this could be the best card of the year

They’re doing it so they don’t have to let Marcus go to Strikeforce.

I like Goulet, but he just doesn’t fare well against good strikers. 8 out of his 10 losses have come by way of KO or TKO and he’s going against a former professional boxer with big power.

The only way I see him winning this is if he can somehow get it to the ground and tap Davis out.

The only problem with that is that Marcus has a very good ground game and he’s extremely hungry for a dominating performance for a win. I honestly see Marcus ending this with KO or TKO in the first 3 minutes. If not then Marcus will win buy a submission aided by a hard hit to Goulet’s face.

dont like this fight one bit, reeks of the UFC desperate to give Davis a win so he can keep pretending to be semi irish and therefore atend all the European UFC events under the false assumption folks over here give a shit about him. we dont. there are better fighters here in europe who should get the chance to shine. Marcus Davis is just a recognisable American name to have on the UK cards in a hope that US viewers will have more inclination to watch the event.

Goulet should have been let go some time back

I had to give you a thumbs down on your first point alone my man. If you guys dont care about Marcus why does he get standing ovations for entrances, chants, and singing throughout his entire fights? YOU may not care about Marcus and that’s fine but dont speak for your whole continent. On the other hand I agree with you, the road warrior neeeds to find another road to travel cuz this one is a dead end for him.

you are right, it is just my opinion, i actually find Marcus to be an entertaining fighter, i just wish he wasnt on every Uk card that comes along. its annoying, he is well promoted by the UFC to try and fit in with the UK fighters, and I for one would rather see a variety of fighters on our cards instead of the same faces every time. i would like to see a lot more European fighters on the UK cards, not just Brit fighters every time

I really dont care where he fights or who he fights, any fight with Marcus Davis in it is going to be a pretty good/great fight.

  • Rece Rock says:

Think they kind of gave him an opponent on paper he would win against…sometimes they seem to try and help the fighters they favor by giving them a “get over the slump” fight and see if the fighter can bounce back…. just my opinion but we have seen this before.
