good list cory. this catyegory boils down to the eye of the beholder, but u picked out the best fights of the year and gave honarable mentions where appropriate. u always do a great job of responding back to ur posts man, which is a true rarity (to have a writer respond back to viewers responses) ,really makes this site stand out! keep up the good work man.

  • doowm says:

sorry bout the misspells (honorable, category) ^^^

  • hindsightufuk says:

not sure what my favourite fight was, the top 4 were definitely up there though.
Maybe Randy/Nog as I love those two guys so much. not sure about most of the honorable mentions though
nice to see Scott Jorgensen up there, pretty sure he will be in a title fight next year
i think the WEC put on the biggest percentage of my favourite fights this last year, maybe Dream and the Ultimate Fight Nights would be second. UFC PPV’s have been a bit of a blow out for me, even Wandy/Franklin i didnt really enjoy, i think sometimes the stature of the event/fighters overwhelms people

  • Jak says:

I loved the Nog Couture fight. 2 legends fighting. Nog always submits his opponents is awesome fashion and nobody submits Couture…

That fight was a thing of beauty. That was my personal fight of the year, it would probably be put in my top 10 of all time, it was just so awesome to watch a fight between 2 of the greats really be great. Like Liddell/Wanderlei…

The only omission i thought should be up there was Tyson Griffin vs. Rafael dos Anjos, as a person with a torn knee watching Griffin get out of the sub attempt then wobble his way to beating down dos Anjos was freaking sweet.

    But that’s just personal preference.

Thanks for the lists Mr. Brady, we can all dispute some of the lists, but in the end it’s all relative to the celebration of MMA in 2009!

“Diego Sanchez vs. Clay Guida – The Ultimate Fighter 9 Finale”
This is my personal #2. More action packed even though it was shorter than Benson vs. Donald.

Great list though. Maybe some extra honorable mentions could have gone too Brown/Faber 2, Tokoro/Kim, Tokoro/Takaya, Takaya/Fernandes.

    Happy New year!

  • hindsightufuk says:

yep Brown/faber 2 was another, and Tokoro is one of my favourite fighters to watch

  • JabCrossHook says:

very good list but you forgot one that definetly needs to be up there

    carwin vs. gonzaga

  • Connor Cobain says:

    Griffin vs. Ortiz 2 anyone?

  • Starforsaken says:

    Good list!

Lytle vs. Davis was great, though.

  • Jak says:

Connor Cobain: Griffin vs. Ortiz 2 anyone?

JabCrossHook: very good list but you forgot one that definetly needs to be up there

    carwin vs. gonzaga

Fight of the year generally implies that it is a competitive fight that last for quite a bit of back and forth. Carwin vs. Gonzaga was like a minute, there was like 3 or 4 total strikes landed and then it was over.
