Ten fighters issued medical suspensions following UFC 106

Forrest GriffinThe Nevada State Athletic Commission recently released its list of medical suspensions resulting from action at UFC 106, and while ten of the event’s participants received a State mandated break before stepping back into the cage, only two of the bunch suffered any significant injury requiring a long healing period.

Luiz Cane is stated to have possibly received a fractured orbital bone in his knockout loss to Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, while Jason Dent may have injured his left knee at some point during his submission loss to George Sotiropoulos.

Headliner Forrest Griffin will be able to resume full contact training in three weeks with the earliest date he can return to action being December 22nd. However, the former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion also suffered damage to his right foot that must be cleared by a doctor if he plans to compete again in Nevada before May 21st, 2010.

Surprising to some, Griffin’s opponent in the main event, Tito Ortiz, was not among the names listed by the NSAC.

Here is the remaining rundown of medically suspended fighters according to a recent report on MMAJunkie.com:

  • Anthony Johnson – Suspended until 12/22/09, no contact until 12/13/09 for precautionary reasons
  • Paulo Thiago – Suspended until 12/22/09, no contact until 12/13/09 due to cut on nasal bridge
  • Luiz Cane – Suspended until 5/21/10 due to possible right orbital fracture but can be cleared by a doctor, minimum suspension until 1/6/10 with no contact until 12/22/09
  • Phil Baroni – Suspended until 1/6/10, no contact until 12/22/09 due to facial and scalp lacerations
  • Jacob Volkmann – Suspended until 12/6/09 due to cuts on scalp and nasal bridge
  • Marcus Davis – Suspended until 5/21/10 with broken nose but can be cleared by a doctor, minimum suspension until 1/6/10 with no contact until 12/22/09 due to multiple cuts
  • Brock Larson – Suspended until 5/21/10 with broken nose but can be cleared by a doctor, minimum suspension until 1/21/10 with no contact until 1/6/10 due to multiple cuts
  • George Sotiropoulos – Suspended until 12/22/09, no contact until 12/13 due to cut over left eyebrow

I think Forrest may have missed his window for a May 21st, 2009 fight.

Man cracked skulls and slipped discs numbered 30172865 must be easy to recover from.

Wow If it is possible I have lost more respect for that attention whore Tito Ortiz. Not only did Tito talk so much about how he was only 60% in the last fight and 100% in this fight but as soon as he looses he comes up with all the excuses in the world. I saw his eye it was nothing more than a black eye if it was broken or fractured they would not of aloud him to fight. So Tito please for the love of god SHUT THE FUCK UP! all your bigmouthing and excuses are full of shit you SUCK!

@Connor Cobain – it is allowed, not “aloud”. We here at 5 oz require proper grammer beacuse we are a civilized bunch.

  • GassedOut says:

Well, that confirms it…Tito Ortiz was…um, less than honest about how he was hurt going into the fight. Bulging discs in the neck run a risk of paralysis (I am personally familiar with the condition, I have degenerative disc disorder, sometime you can’t turn your head, sometimes numbness in your arms, etc), and there is no way in hell that would be missed on a medical suspension. C’mon, Bro…Forrest fought with a broken foot, confirmed by the mention in the medical suspension. So what’s you’re real excuse? The only one I can buy is ring rust and less of a gas tank than normal. Dude, you lost. It’s okay…everybody loses. Get over it, and move on, come back better next time. What’s with the excuses? We know you signed a mulit-fight deal. Grow the hell up!

It’s also would HAVE allowed…not “would of aloud”………yep.

I find it hilarious that Tito isn’t on this list..

This is why I dislike tito, and I guess its the same reason why Dana couldnt get along with him either. He is a Pussy who cant take a loss. If I remember correctly he stated “Im in the best shape of my life” maybe he forgot his skull was broken. I hope he gets beat badly in the rest of his UFC fights, whatever is left on his contract. Good job Forrest, and Great card!

I stand corrected. A few days ago, I read that Tito was battling several injuries coming into the fight and tried to defend the guy. He really was healthy, and he really is full of s#%^! The rest of the LHW are going to run him over. He could be the latest incarnation of Ken Shamrock!!
