Sean Sherk vs. Rafaello Oliveira set for UFC 108

Sean SherkFormer UFC lightweight champion Sean Sherk is set to make his return to action in January, facing off with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt Rafaello Oliveira at UFC 108.

The bout was recently confirmed through Sherk himself during a conversation with WICombatSports.com.

“I’m fighting January 2 against Rafaello Oliveira,” revealed Sherk. “I haven’t studied him yet, but I know he has fought my training partner Nick Lentz in Dallas. Lentz beat him, and he’s been able to give me some good advice on him.”

UFC 108 is expected for January 2 from Las Vegas, Nevada.

Sherk will be looking to get back on track following a decision loss to Frankie Edgar following a victory over Tyson Griffin, while Oliveira will also be hoping to hop back in the win column following a decision defeat in his Octagon debut at the hands of Nick Lentz during UFC 103.

I thought Sherk only wanted big fights. Fighting a guy who is 0-1 in the ufc is not really a fight you would expect to see form somebody of Sherks caliber. I guess this is the ufc’s way of giving Sean a win, and if Florian beats Guida maybe they can have a rematch.

honestly. i have no respect for sean sherk. i cant ever trust that he is clean. after failing tests, running out of the building still in fight gear to avoid a post fight piss test then “injuring your hand” when you find out youve been selected for pre fight screens.. its all way too suspicious. he looks like beavis on roids. i hate his blatant disrespect for the rules..maybe we can trade sherk to japan for eddie alvarez. im sorry to bitch but sherk rubs me the wrong way. Go Olivera (sp?)

I don’t know exactly what I believe about him being on steroids. I know first hand that you take a lot of different supplements to enhance your training and weight cutting, but there’s a fine line between the legal ones and the illegal ones. Obviously he had steroids in his system but with how complex some of these supplements are, I wouldn’t be too surprised if it turned out that those were how he failed the test. I remember when he left after his Edgar fight, it was said that it was because he was emotional and frustrated, which I can understand. I believe he took the drug test quickly after. He would be an idiot to knowingly do steroids again because it’s no secret he will be tested.

As for him fighting Oliveira, I really don’t know why he would take the fight other than possibly wanting to actually finish a fighter for the first time in a century.

Ever since he’s been off the juice he’s done nothing but lose. I just get so sick of him claiming he’s all that and hasn’t shown us anything. I was a fan before the juice incident and maybe still a little afterwards…but i am no longer a fan of the steroidshark
