Mixed martial arts made it’s return to primetime television on Saturday evening as “Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Rogers” was aired live on CBS.

The card left the masses with a hunger for more free MMA as Fedor Emelianenko put an exclamation mark on a wild main event, knocking Brett Rogers to the canvas in the second round with a monstrous right hand and finishing him off with a few short punches for the TKO victory.

Also in action were Gegard Mousasi, Jake Shields, Jason “Mayhem” Miller, Fabricio Werdum and more.

Below is a selection of photographs of the event courtesy of Esther Lin and Strikeforce:

I would have liked to see the womans fight here but overall a great night.
Same old Sokodju, great first round then gasses out, he really looked great in the first 5 min even putting Mousasi in a tight giulliotene.
I am glad Werdum won but man that was a close fight.
For all the crap Rogers is getting for his comments he fought a great fight, Fedor also fought a great fight, throwing Rogers around like nothing, never getting hurt and taking no huge bombs. Man what an exciting fight.

    Fedor almost got beaten

now i know why he does not wan to go to the UFC

even Dos Santos would KO him

  • boredmuch says:

cool pictures! i think strikeforce did a great job and the main event was entertaining as hell!

  • nkats says:

Quite clearly that’s the reason he doesn’t want to go to the UFC….. I mean, he’s beaten every1 he has faced in the last 10 years, with his only loss coming because of a cut from an illegal elbow, which was ruled as a loss because it was a tournament, and some1 has to go to the next round….
Xtreme_machine, do urself a favour, instead of ur dumbass Dana White brain washed reasoning about not facing the best competition, y not take the time and go and atcually WATCH his fights over the last 10years, and see who he has actually beaten. I’m pretty sure there’s a bunch of ex UFC champs, that all seem to have an excuse thrown after they cop a beating. Furthermore, the people he has fought that still fight in the UFC (Cro-cop, Nog etc) he has beaten and beaten convincingly, are merely themselves shadow’s of the fighters they were when Fedor actually fought them. People say that the best competition is in the UFC for Fedor, and while i won’t dispute that, who is really left in the UFC for him? Cain, Dos Santos and Brock? To be honest, I only see brock as the guy that could possibly beat him. Randy will always feature because its a fight every long time has fan has dreamed for, not because of who would win, but more as a celebration of two of the most decorated careers in the sport.
Next thing Xtreme is that you say Fedor almost got beaten…. Give me a time frame in the fight and i’ll go and revisit and look our for it… If you actually watch fedor’s fights, take a look at how he fights. Josh put it perfectly in the Pride Fighting Decade documentary (every fan should watch that doco), but saying something along the lines of ‘The most important thing is that Fedor keeps the fight under his rhythm, and after he has that going, he just does what he needs to do to win the fight’. Ive never heard a more true statement about his fighting style. It drives me insane at the number of uneducated Pro UFC only comments that get made on most mma forums. Yes the UFC is the best, yes they have most of the good fighters, but not EVERY good fighter. If people want the sport of MMA to progress, people have to appreciate the talent that resides outside the UFC. Strikeforce, you did a nice job, i hope the next few cards follow suit 😀

Yeah Fedor didn’t Impress or Wow me at all. I was more Impressed by Brett Rogers not backing down from him + actually taking the Fight to Fedor. Yeah Fedor made a Smart Move steering clear of the UFC*

  • nkats says:

By Josh i was referring to Josh Barnett

  • David Andrest says:

    xtreme_machine: Fedor almost got beaten

If he had a nickel for everytime someone made a crazy claim like this he’d never have to fight again.

Have you ever seen the man KO’d ???? that’s 31 fights. Everyone has good and bad days, 31 in a row against any competition is amazing.

He doesn’t have a Ryo Chonan on his record, no embarassing memory of Matt Serra, no Frank Mir knee bars, no loss to Jens Pulver due to lack of training.

It’s easy and fun to play the devils advocate, but really???

Honeslty, keep picking against him. at this point it’s a smart move based on the numbers alone. He’s gotta lose sometime right?? And someone needs to be there to say I told you so.

  • nkats says:

If you’re not impressed by Fedor’s fighting style, look at his past fights…. Actually WATCH them and do go by 3rd person opinion. As i stated earlier,he gets the fight under his rhythm, and does what he needs to do to WIN, not IMPRESS…. I’m pretty sure all the drainers that ‘weren’t impressed’ are the same ppl that ‘weren’t impressed’ with Machida before he got a few knockouts.

it’s funny seeing the ufc nut huggers comments on here. I think if anything Rogers showed he is a legitimate heavyweight who can hang with the best of him. I think he’d be extremely competitive with most of the UFC heavyweights

  • BiG BaD BuLL says:

thank you, David; you said it perfectly. I can’t help but wonder what these Fedor detractors are talking about. have they actually watched the same fights we have? Over rated and hasn’t fought real talent? are you kidding me? Nogeura(s), Cro cop (back when he was in his prime) heath herring, babalu, Hong man choi, hunt, randleman, slyvia, arvlovski etc… what else does he have to do to prove to some of these guys that he’s the best? For the purely UFC fans; if he is so over rated, why did dana pursue him in such an aggressive and determined fashion? the only person that has a chance of beating him is brock, and it has nothing to do with technical skills of any facet. brock has the size and strength to POSSIBLY put him in the same position that mir was in. IF that happened, he MIGHT win… But I still wouldn’t be shocked to see fedor snap out one of those nasty fight finishing armbars. Bottom line is this: EMELIANANKO IS THE BADDEST MAN ON THE PLANET. PERIOD.

  • Niv says:

I too find the UFC bias as boring, unrealistic and completely disrespectful of what this guy has achieved in his career.

It doesn’t matter what Fedor does, it doesn’t matter how many times he does it, or against who he does it to, there will always be a Dana White drone there to beat the Fedor is nobody drum.

The guy has done nothing but step into the ring against anyone they put in front of him and he always finds a way to win.

The vast majority of mma fighters and analysts agree he’s the best in the world and sets the standard for all to follow, yet it’s the same old hate.

Try and open your minds for a change and enjoy watching a virtuoso ply his trade while you can, Fedor will not fight forever and you won’t know what you’ve missed till he’s gone.

Great comment bald bull and nice list except foe Choi.

And David, i alsp picked Fedor to lose mostly because of how AA bullied him around for most of there fight and the ease of witch Rogers koed AA. Really nobody objective can dislike what Fedor does out there. He is about as perfect a fighter as you can get but it is all in a match up, and it seemed like Fedor had a lot stacked against him here-long layoff, new to a cage , huge ko machine. but the guy is unreal.

should i just change my screen name to “bald bull”? i’ve gotten a lot of it today…

Who even comes close Xtreme? He is 30-1, Lesnar is 4-1 and Randy is 16- 10! and what the hell is wrong with Dos Santos? Are you trying to cause controversy or are you just delusional? He has now beaten (stopped) Werdum and Crocop and is training with one of the best HWs ever.

“now i know why he does not wan to go to the UFC”
Why do no UFC fighters fight out of the UFC then? perhaps they would lose to Fedor just like Sylvia, Nog, Coleman, Randleman, Kohsaka, Arlovski etc The same argument has been made for years all the way back to when Pride was in full swing. Naive people would say things like UFC fighters are soooo much better” and “Pride fighters suck”. Well here is a list of fighters that were in Pride not long before the UFC killed it.
Rampage, Wanderlei, Arona , Randleman, Coleman, Fedor, Mousasi, Jacare, Miller, Villasenor, Rua, Hendo, Filho, Barnett, Werdum, Kharitonov, Hunt, Aoki, Hansen, Sakurai, Misaki, Shogun, Crocop, Aleks, Overeem, JZ, Belfort, Herring, Kang, Sakuraba, Gomi and the list goes on.
You are being as silly as the people that said that Pride was inferior back then. If you really take a subjective look at it you might see that Pride possibly had a better stable of fighters( I think they were paying more at the time so it kind of makes sense). Now I’m not saying Stikeforce is better or anything I’m just trying to point out to you that what you are saying is dumb just like it was dumb to say those things about Pride back then.

P.S. Remember people saying how great Chuck was and then he goes to Pride and gets destroyed by Rampage who was only 1 of about 10 of the top LHWs in Pride. That is why Dana wont do it again until he is forced to. I think that event has left a scar on Mr White.

I’m certainly not trying to say much more than show the many some credit in a win. 31 wins and now he is exposed as over rated? Nonsense. 31 wins in this sport with no losses or 1 if you would like to count the cut is amazing. for anybody.

( for the Record I picked AA to win)

  • Niv says:

MMA-LOGIC, you hit the nail on the head with your entire post. Dana White had no problem loaning Lidell and Belfort to Pride tournaments when the UFC was the lower tiered organization and Pride was the big show.

Both times his fighters lost as you mentioned Lidell to Rampage, and Belfort was choked out by Overeem. This is the main reason the UFC doesn’t want to do a co-promotion, especially now that the UFC is at its height of popularity.

People need to stop this bias and just enjoy the great fights that are being put on for us from either organization and respect the talent and courage these fighters display for us regardless of who they fight for.

Is Fedor fighting in Japan in dec Andrest and co? I know he likes to. Are there any rumors and who might the opponent be? and please don’t say Sapp.

  • elkymbo says:

It is AWESOME to finally see a fight organization that can compete with the UFC . I’m sick of listening to Dana White crap on about how great his company is and how shit everything other than the UFC is. This can only make the sport better because after all there’s nothing wrong with a little healthy competition right? Long live MMA!

    Highly doubt that, Logic..
He hurt his hand and broke his nose.. Surely he won’t be ready to fight in a month..
