WEC 45: Cerrone vs. Ratcliff set for December 19

cerroneA lightweight battle pitting Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone up against Ed Ratcliff has been tabbed as the headliner for WEC 45.

The event is set to take place on December 19 from the Pearl at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas.

Also announced as a co-headlining attraction is a lightweight bout between Chris Horodecki and Anthony Njokuani, with a bantamweight showdown between Joseph Benavidez and Rani Yahya also slated for the card.

Also appearing in bantamweight action will be heavy handed Japanese wrestler Takeya Mizugaki against Scott Jorgensen.

“Four of our top lightweights are going to be competing on Dec. 19, each with his sights set on securing a coveted shot at the world title,” said WEC General Manager Reed Harris. “Cerrone vs. Ratcliff has the potential to be an explosive stand up war. We can expect much of the same from Njokuani and Horodecki as well. This is the perfect holiday gift for fans.”

Cerrone will be looking to get back in the win column following a WEC 43 decision loss at the hands of Benson Henderson, following a first round submission victory over James Krause, while Ratcliff is hoping to improve to two in a row following a decision victory over Phil Cardella at WEC 42, following a submission defeat to Marcus Hicks.

Man I think Cerrone’s style of ground fighting has cost him 2 heartbreaking decisions. When he stands he’s as dynamic as it gets. I hope he gets back into the win column soon for rematches with Varner and/or Henderson. Neither of which ever wants to see Cerrone as an opponent again. Varner proved that and Henderson actually said it. What does that tell you about his ability? He’s better than both of those guys.
