King Mo inks deal with Strikeforce

King MoMuhammed “King Mo” Lawal, one of the fastest rising fighters in the sport, has recently signed with Strikeforce to compete in their light heavyweight division.

The news of the recent signing comes courtesy of a report on Sherdog, who also confirmed that the contract will also allow Mo to compete in the Sengoku organization where he started out his career, racking up four victories in less than six months.

Most recently Lawal made lightning quick work of Mark “The Smashing Machine” Kerr during “M-1: Breakthrough” on August 28, where he slammed the UFC veteran to the canvas and knocked him unconscious with a shower of heavy punches.

Mo’s recent acquisition to the Strikeforce 205 pound division will go a long way in building up the promotion’s paper thin weight class that currently includes fighters such as champion Gegard Mousasi, and former champion’s Renato “Babalu” Sobral and Bobby Southworth.

I was hoping that UFC would get him on TUF for next season, but he will do good in SF and Japan.

I hope they don’t rush him into a fight with Mousasi.

Strikeforce keeps getting better with these signings. I would like to see him start off with a guy like Southworth who would be a tough test but if Mo runs through him he is only or two fights from a title bout.

Well this is a very good signing by SF, unfortunately for Mo that means he’s most likely up against Moussasi very soon.

The more we see these types of signings makes the likelihood of someone like Dan Henderson jumping ship more plausible.

Agreed. Hopefully they can get him at least 2 fights before he goes up against mousasi. A fight with Mike WHitehead then maybe someone like Cyril Abidi or Soukoudjou would be cool(Anyone that is primarily a striker).

King Mo has not proved himself yet in my opinion. Yes he has looked good but all of his fights have been against human punching bags.I hope to see him get tested by some legit fighters and see what he is made of. I think Southworth could be a ok test as a middle of the pack fighter and if he can look impressive there then maybe feijao or sobral who I dont see him having any chance against, but atleast now we will see if the guy is more then talk and stupid enterances.

A Henderson signing by strikeforce is a complete slap in the Dana White’s FACE. Dont see it happening. Hendo knows his time in the cage is coming to an end and whats nothing but big fights/paydays. And right now all the big $$$$$ are in the UFC.
Still will be funny if he did

I think BigDave is secertly Rampage???? Are you cause that almost sounds like the same thing he told Mo on that y-tube thing where he calls out Mo??
    So Dave are you????

being that there is no more tests outside the ufc at lhw for Gegard, i wanna see these two fight.

lmao, No I’ve slagged Runpage more then anyone on here. I didn’t see the youtube video but if he sais something along those lines that i just posted well then at least he got one thing right. Now I never said Mo isn’t a good fighter but there isn’t anyone out there other then the people he beat or there family and friends that would say he has faced anything other then tomato cans and yes before someone says “he faced Travis wiuff he isn’t a tomato can!” yes he is

Mo has not done anything yet to justify all the hype around him but if he is able to come into Strikeforce and face and beat higher class fighters then I will give the guy his props. Until then He will just be the guy whit really stupid ring enterances and un tested fighting skills.

  • Angry Mike says:

King Mo may have a home in Strikeforce, but Mousasi has already outgrown it. He won’t face a serious challenge until he gets to UFC. Mo isn’t at Mousasi’s skill level right now. That’s not a swipe at Mo; it’s an acknowledgment that Mousasi is top tier talent.

I cant wait for him to get smashed by Babalou or someone and bring him down to earth.

  • Joseph says:

Another great signing by Strikeforce. They are getting better and better every week.

  • cocoonofhorror says:

i dont know why everyone is assuming he will fight Mousasi any time soon. they are at two very different points in their careers and i think SF will have Mo fight at HW for the forseeable future….
