SPIKE TV to air select UFC 104 Preliminary bouts.

Spike TV announced today that the network would be airing select fights from UFC 104. The broadcast will be shown live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA Saturday, October 24 at 9:00pm ET/PT with the main card being broadcast live on Pay Per View.

Spike TV recently telecast the prelims for UFC 103 on September 14th, and managed to pull 1.4 million viewers which was good for number 2 in the coveted male 18-34 demographic.

The fights scheduled for broadcast include, undefeated Ryan “Darth” Bader vs. Eric “Red” Schafer. Bader, season 8 winner of The Ultimate Figher will look to keep his unbeaten streak in tact while Schafer is riding a 4 fight win streak .

Also featured, will be Antoni Hardonk vs. Pat Berry in a fight that has potential to be an absolute war. Both fighters are strikers of the highest caliber, with both fighters strong enough to end the other with a single punch or kick.

The number of fights to be shown on Spike TV will be determined by the length of these two scheduled bouts with additional fights a possibility.

man i hope they do this with every card

    Bader Unanimous Decision

Berry 1st KO (Left high kick)

  • David Andrest says:

Dana, borrowing from the Classic Vince McMahon template of PPV sales. It’s smart, and I’m sure the numbers will show that it works.

    Well done UFC.

  • edub says:

Fuck yea Hardonk and Barry on free TV. Yea thats right no censor FUCK YEA!

  • metalmulisha says:

Not only did Yushin Okami and Chael Sonnen gets screwed from being on the main card now they’re televising 2 pre-lims and that fight isn’t even one of them.

  • edub says:

Yep. Didnt even reckognize til you said that Mulisha. I guess you gotta market Bader though. Pretty unfair if you ask me.

If it goes anything like the last UFC 1 or 2 more fights will get shown.

  • Scottish_MMA_fan says:

What the heck does okami have to do to get on television and get a bit of buzz behind him? I feel bad for saying it but I reckon he’s gonna have to get some sort of over the top racist gimmick to pull it off. That or wait a few years until gsp has literally ran thru the rest of the division and there is no one left to fight but okami.

Fingers crossed we get some quick finishes in the prelims and they have to air it to fill out their tv time.

Not that I agree with what I’m about to say, but I’ll answer this question.

He needs to finish fights and speak english.

I really like this idea of broadcasting the prelims…there are to many good young fighters who need a chance to build a name for themselves and this is a good way. Also not a bad way to grab casual fans attention and give them something to do on a saturday night. You never know they could pitch in with some friends and end up buying the PPV to enjoy it some more. Overall great idea.

  • spotMMAwarrior25 says:

Oh! and they need to do this for UFC 106 because that card is stacked with good fights. COME ON DANA!

  • hindsightufuk says:

guess im the only one not overly keen on this idea. as much as i want to see as many fights as possible, i felt it back fired a little last time. The two prelims they showed were first round stoppages, so they had to show a couple more prelims to fill time. come the main event, due to some more early stoppages they then had to show a couple of less than entertaining prelims during the main card cos they’d already shown most of the rest.

but whatever, more mma is always good mma

  • Scottish_MMA_fan says:

Was just thinking to myself, with 103 was there any preliminary fights that didnt get shown one way or another either on the ppv or on the spike show? The only one im not sure about was the janitors fight.

  • hindsightufuk says:

Matyushenko’s fight and that tall guy from TUF, baldy fella, forget his name. those were the only two fights not shown. dont think we missed anything from what i heard

  • hindsightufuk says:

actually i guess the ufc could put more fights on the card, like 103 had 13 or 14 wasnt it?

  • nope says:

I think Sonnen v. Okami would possibly turn people away. Two “safe” fighters known for not being electric or exciting or charismatic, grinding on each other for 15 minutes….is not going to get new buyers for the ppv. Both VERY talented, but dull, especially against each other.
