Hendo vs. Lil Nog & Hughes vs. Swick possibilities to headline UFC 105?

Matt HughesAs the Ultimate Fighting Championship today made UFC 105 official, confirming bouts between Michael Bisping and Denis Kang, and Dan Hardy vs. Dong Hyun Kim, speculation has already began to intensify in regards to potential main event possibilities for the card.

Two possibilities making the rounds on the rumor mill currently include a welterweight showdown/possible title eliminator bout between Mike Swick and Matt Hughes, and a light-heavyweight tussle between Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and Dan Henderson.

Previously expected to face off with Martin Kampmann at UFC 103 in a title elimination bout at 170 pounds, Swick was recently forced from the card due to a injury suffered during training. In a recent Twitter post Swick dropped Hughes’ name, stating,”No next opponent has been offered, but yes I would love to fight Hughes. I will be ready by UFC 104 so just waiting for the UFC to call.”

In a follow up tweet, Swick made sure to clarify that just because he said he would be ready by UFC 104, in no way had he implied that it would be the next event he would be fighting at, explaining,”I have no set return yet. I just said I will be ready by UFC 104. So 104, 105, 106, 107… I will fight as soon as I get an opportunity!”

Of course Hughes recently announced that he had just re-inked with the UFC and has already began discussions with the UFC in regards to his next opponent. Coming off of a win over Matt Serra it seems highly unlikely that a former champion of Hughes caliber will want to waste any time before making a charge for the title again. A fight against a well-positioned challenger like Swick would make a lot of sense from his standpoint.

Throwing a minuscule amount of fuel to the fire, recently had this to say in a blog on his official website,”Nothing is decided yet. However, one name the UFC did bring up is a person I’ve never fought before.”

Obviously that list of fighters includes well more than half of the welterweights currently competing in the UFC, but Swick definitely falls into that category.

In other news, is reporting that a light-heavyweight bout between Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and Dan Henderson is being entertained as a headliner for UFC 105.

This bout would make a good amount of sense due to the fact that Nogueira is widely expected to debut in the Octagon sometime soon and Henderson recently stated that he would rather move up to light-heavyweight if Anderson Silva isn’t his next bout. With Silva on the sidelines until early 2010 due to elbow surgery, that doesn’t seem very likely.

UFC 105 is set for November 14 and will take place from the MEN Arena in Manchester, England.

    both are awesome matches but

Antonio Rogerio Nogueira Vs. Dan Henderson II

will be the best choice for 105 and imagine the boos he will get from the England crowd because of the Bisbing KO

Watch out is the flying forearm!

  • fanoftna33 says:

At least its one good fight, as Hughes will get thrashed by Swick in the first round. I think Henderson vs Nig is a great fight to have.

  • hindsightufuk says:

yeah that would be good to see, and would also let us know where little nogs standing in the lhw ranks will be.

i’m sure Hendo will get as many cheers as he would boo’s from the english fans, theres a lot of folks over here who love him for that knockout.

long before the UFC tried to make Michael Bisping the face of UK mma, he was commonly referred to as ‘that mouthy cunt’, when we used to describe which fighters were gonna be appearing on upcoming local mma events

  • fanoftna33 says:

I dont like Bisping any more than most people, But I would like to see the Bisping that took Rashad to a split decision( I felt he won the fight) H hasnt looked good at all since when he is facing a good opponent. Mcarthy doesnt count.

  • hindsightufuk says:

he looks like he has no power any more, at lhw at least he was entertaining.
i don’t mind him as a fighter when he fights, not runs away doing his shit counter fighting thing, some people can do it, others look stupid, tripping over the cage walls etc. i just don’t like him as a person.

“will be the best choice for 105 and imagine the boos he will get from the England crowd because of the Bisbing KO”

A LOT of people actually appreciate what Hendo did as Bisping is seen as a moron who isn’t fit to represent the country as their number 1 MMA fighter.

As for his power; he loses it when he cuts to middleweight, and he didn’t have much to begin with. I also think he doesn’t like to get hit and this fear causes him to fight the way he does and throw punches in almost a sparring fashion. He connected on Leben countless times but not once did Leben so much as flinch or so any kind of respect for his power – wading towards him for the whole fight. His face may have been cut up come the end of that fight but you don’t need power to do that. Bisping is capable of beating mid-tier middleweights (and possibly even low ranked top 10’s) using this style but as soon as he faces a strong wrestler or striker, using his current style, he will lose, simple as that.

  • moosebaby02 says:

i dont really care to see hughes fight again, hell imo he lost that serra fight. go little nog and kick hendos ass. little bitch scared to fight Nate the Great cause he knows he will get smashed

  • Angry Mike says:

Imo, Bisping’s problem is that he’s just a striker, and as others have already pointed out, he doesn’t have much power. I don’t think he’s going to climb up through the ranks unless he develops some offensive wrestling or credible bjj. And once the mid and lower tier fighters figure out the holes in his game, he’s really f***ed.

No offense to Hughes or Swick, both of whom are game fighters, but neither is main event caliber right now. Even co-main event status is a stretch. I guess the card holds up alright if you combine them with Little ‘Nog and Hendo, but only just.

  • Bullylover says:

a swick-hughes fight does not sound interesting in the least. It will probably go like the hughes-alves fight, possibly ending faster. HUghes is my favorite fighter of all time but seriously i see him getting hurt if this fight ends up happening. Now a lil nog-hendo fight sounds very good and they’re like 1-1 with each other. This fight should produce fire works for sure.

  • Rich S. says:

    Henderson v Rogerio 2?

Their first fight is one of my favorites..

  • TerribleT says:

Let Lil’Nog fight somebody in the UFC that he hasn’t already fought over in PRIDE.There’s so many other possibilities that they don’t need to have him fight Hendo. Lil’ Nog should go up against a LHW ranked right around 10 so the fans that don’t know him can get to know him.

  • fanoftna33 says:

I am looking forward to seeing the ufc stop protecting Swick and give him a tough fight. I dont see why Alves is fighting Paulo , which is a huge step down for him and not putting Swick in there. That would be a real title eliminator, but it looks like they want to give both guys a win or two before they get some hard fights.

  • moosebaby02 says:

Swick and Alves wouldnt be good cause Alves will just walk right over him. but finally some who see’s the pampering UFC dose when handling Swick

  • edub says:

Fan Im right with you on this.

Swick vs. Alves would be an awesome title eliminator for Swick. I see it being a close scrap with Swick KOing Alves in the first or second round. Alot of people sleep on Swick eventhough the only fight he lost in the UFC was a close decision loss to Okami.

  • nope says:

+1 on Fan…Alves sounds good. Fitch and Kos sound good too. Wouldn’t get past Fitch, imo.

  • xtreme_machine says:

    Little Nog via submission
    Swick KO

  • submit662266 says:

I agree edub. Great for him to drop to welter. All of his fights that I’ve seen have been exciting (missed the Okami fight). He will punch MH 50 times in under 2 seconds leaving Hughes battered bruised and confused.

Don’t know enough about little nog yet to call this one, but seeing how Hendo defended the rear naked choke against silva, a Nog victory seems likely.
